Description

The NPort IA5000 1-port RS-232/422/485 serial device server connects a legacy serial device to an Ethernet network over a 100BaseFX multi-mode SC fibre port. It provides 2 kV serial isolation and a 0 to 55°C operating range, suiting factory floors, substations and other electrically noisy industrial sites where fibre isolation protects equipment.

Built for DIN-rail mounting in an IP30 plastic housing, it takes 12 to 48 VDC through two redundant power inputs and includes a relay output for alerts. It supports TCP server, TCP client and UDP socket modes, with Windows Real COM, Linux Real TTY, Fixed TTY and Android API drivers for connecting existing serial software to the network.

Features

- 100BaseFX multi-mode fibre with SC connector for noise-immune Ethernet links
- 2 kV serial isolation protection for connected serial devices
- Socket modes: TCP server, TCP client and UDP
- Patented ADDC (Automatic Data Direction Control) for 2-wire and 4-wire RS-485
- Redundant DC power inputs for continuous operation
- Warnings and alerts by relay output and email
- IP30-rated housing with DIN-rail mounting
- Windows Real COM, Linux Real TTY, Fixed TTY and Android API support
- Management via SNMPv1, HTTP, Telnet, DHCP client, DNS and SNTP

FAQs

Q: Does this device server have an RJ45 Ethernet port?
A: No. This model uses a single 100BaseFX multi-mode SC fibre port for its network connection and has no RJ45 port.

Q: What serial interfaces does it support?
A: One serial port that supports RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485. RS-232 uses a DB9 male connector, while RS-422 and RS-485 use a terminal block.

Q: What fibre type and distance does the multi-mode port support?
A: It uses OM1 50/125 µm multi-mode fibre with a typical distance of 4 km at a 1300 nm wavelength, with a 12 dB link budget.

Q: How is it powered?
A: It accepts 12 to 48 VDC through two redundant terminal block inputs, so it can stay powered if one supply fails.

Q: Can it be used in hazardous locations?
A: Yes. It carries ATEX and Class I Division 2 hazardous location certification, and is housed in an IP30 plastic enclosure for DIN-rail installation.

Q: What operating system drivers are available?
A: It supports Windows Real COM, Linux Real TTY, Fixed TTY and an Android API, as well as TCP server, TCP client and UDP socket modes.
