Description

The NPort 6450-T is a 4-port secure serial device server that connects RS-232/422/485 serial devices to an Ethernet network. SSL and SSH encryption protect serial data in transit, and the wide temperature rating of -40 to 75°C suits unheated cabinets, outdoor enclosures and harsh industrial sites. This variant has no LCD panel, so IP settings are configured through the web console, serial console, Telnet console or the Windows search utility.

Four DB9 male serial ports share a single IP address and support baudrates from 50 bps to 921.6 kbps, with 15 kV ESD protection on all serial signals. Secure operation modes include Real COM, TCP Server, TCP Client, Pair Connection, Terminal and Reverse Terminal. Port buffers expandable via an SD socket help prevent data loss if the Ethernet link drops.

Features

- SSL and SSH encrypted serial data transmission over Ethernet
- Port buffers (64 KB, expandable via SD card) help prevent data loss if the Ethernet connection fails
- Secure modes: Real COM, TCP Server, TCP Client, Pair Connection, Terminal, Reverse Terminal
- Standard modes include UDP, RFC2217, Reverse Telnet, Ethernet Modem, Printer and PPP
- IPv6 support
- Ethernet redundancy (STP/RSTP/Turbo Ring) with optional network module
- Generic serial commands supported in Command-by-Command mode
- All four serial devices share a single IP address
- Up to 8 terminal sessions per port
- Web, serial, Telnet console and Windows utility configuration

FAQs

Q: How does the NPort 6450-T differ from the standard NPort 6450?
A: The -T model is rated for -40 to 75°C operation and has no LCD panel. The LCD panel for IP configuration is only available on the standard-temperature model.

Q: How do I configure the IP address without an LCD panel?
A: Use the web console, serial console, Telnet console or the Windows search utility. Serial port 1 doubles as an RS-232 console port.

Q: What serial interfaces does it support?
A: Each of the four DB9 male ports supports RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485. RS-485 uses automatic data direction control (ADDC).

Q: How is serial data secured?
A: SSL and SSH encryption protect data in transit, and the unit supports DES, 3DES and AES encryption.

Q: What happens to serial data if the network goes down?
A: Each port has a 64 KB buffer, expandable with an SD card up to 2 GB, to prevent data loss during Ethernet interruptions.

Q: What power input does it require?
A: It accepts 12 to 48 VDC and includes a relay alarm output rated 1 A @ 24 VDC.
