Description

The Moxa TCC-80I-DB9 is an isolated RS-232 to RS-422/485 serial converter with a DB9 male connector on the RS-422/485 side. It converts RS-422 and both 2-wire and 4-wire RS-485, with automatic data direction control and automatic baudrate detection, and supports speeds from 50 bps to 921.6 kbps. 2.5 kV optical isolation and 15 kV ESD protection on the serial lines protect connected equipment in industrial and building automation environments.

The converter is port-powered, so no external supply is needed, though an optional 5 to 12 VDC input is available. Built-in 120-ohm termination resistors and an LED port power indicator simplify installation, and the compact 42 x 91 x 23.6 mm, 50 g housing suits tight spaces. It belongs to the TCC-80/80I series of serial converters.

FAQs

Q: Does the TCC-80I-DB9 need an external power supply?
A: No. It is port-powered from the serial port. An optional 5 to 12 VDC supply can be connected to the power input jack if the host port cannot supply enough power, and the LED indicator shows whether the converter is receiving sufficient power.

Q: Which serial standards does it convert between?
A: It converts RS-232 to RS-422 and to RS-485, in both 2-wire and 4-wire modes.

Q: How does it handle RS-485 data direction?
A: It uses automatic data direction control (ADDC), so no software or handshaking signals are required to switch between transmit and receive.

Q: What isolation does this model provide?
A: It provides 2.5 kV optical isolation using a photo coupler, which protects against ground loop currents. The serial lines also have 15 kV ESD protection.

Q: What is the maximum baudrate?
A: It supports baudrates from 50 bps up to 921.6 kbps, including non-standard baudrates, and detects the baudrate automatically.

Q: How does the TCC-80I-DB9 differ from the non-isolated TCC-80?
A: The TCC-80I-DB9 adds 2.5 kV optical isolation to protect against ground loops. The TCC-80 in the same series does not include isolation.
