Description

The Moxa TCC-80 is a port-powered RS-232 to RS-422/485 serial converter that provides complete signal conversion without needing an external power supply. It supports RS-422, 2-wire RS-485 and 4-wire RS-485, with automatic data direction control, so it drops straight into existing serial links. This non-isolated model connects to the RS-422/485 side through a terminal block, and the RS-232 side through a DB9 female connector.

The converter supports baudrates from 50 bps to 921.6 kbps, including non-standard baudrates, and includes a built-in 120-ohm termination resistor option for long RS-485 runs. It draws power from the RS-232 port, with an optional 5 to 12 VDC external input available. The compact desktop housing measures 42 x 80 x 22 mm and weighs 50 g, making it well suited to bench setups, field commissioning and small serial networks.

Features

- Port powered, so no external power source is required
- External 5 to 12 VDC power supported when needed
- Converts RS-422 as well as 2-wire and 4-wire RS-485
- Automatic data direction control for RS-485
- Automatic baudrate detection
- Built-in 120-ohm termination resistor option
- Compact desktop form factor for easy deployment

FAQs

Q: Does the Moxa TCC-80 need an external power supply?
A: No. It is powered from the RS-232 port, although an optional 5 to 12 VDC external supply can be connected through the power input jack if required.

Q: Which serial standards does the TCC-80 support?
A: It converts RS-232 to RS-422, 2-wire RS-485 or 4-wire RS-485. The RS-232 side uses a DB9 female connector and the RS-422/485 side uses a terminal block.

Q: What is the difference between the TCC-80 and the TCC-80I?
A: The TCC-80 is non-isolated. The TCC-80I variants add 2 kV isolation for installations needing electrical isolation between the serial sides.

Q: Do I need to configure data direction for RS-485?
A: No. The converter uses ADDC (automatic data direction control), so the RS-485 transmit direction is handled automatically without software or RTS control.

Q: What baudrates does the TCC-80 support?
A: It supports 50 bps to 921.6 kbps, including non-standard baudrates.

Q: Can it terminate an RS-485 bus?
A: Yes. It includes a built-in 120-ohm termination resistor option, as well as 120 kilo-ohm pull options, for RS-485 line termination.
