Description

The Moxa MGate MB3170-S-SC-G2 is a 1-port advanced Modbus gateway that converts between Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU/ASCII. It provides one 10/100BaseT(X) RJ45 port and one 100BaseFX single-mode SC fibre port, so it suits plant networks that need fibre uplinks for noise immunity or longer runs. The software-selectable RS-232/422/485 serial port on a DB9 connector lets a single unit bridge serial Modbus devices into an Ethernet network. This variant has non-isolated serial and an operating range of -10 to 60°C.

The gateway supports up to 32 Modbus TCP client and 32 server connections, with both client (master) and server (slave) modes. Its agent mode actively polls connected devices and caches data for low-latency responses, while Auto Device Routing simplifies configuration. The two Ethernet ports can be used in cascade or dual-subnet arrangements, and built-in Modbus test tools and traffic monitoring help with commissioning and troubleshooting.
