Description

The Moxa ICF-1171I-S-ST-T is an industrial CAN-to-fibre converter that extends CAN 2.0A, CAN 2.0B and CAN FD networks over single-mode fibre with an ST connector, reaching a typical distance of 40 km. Deployed in pairs, it links remote CAN segments across plants, rail corridors and utility sites. This -T model is rated for -40 to 75°C operation, and the built-in 2 kV CAN isolation helps protect equipment from ground loops and electrical noise.

Dual 12 to 48 VDC power inputs provide power redundancy, and a relay output supports fault signalling. A DIP switch enables the 120-ohm terminator, while rotary switches set the CAN 2.0 or CAN FD arbitration and data rates. The IP30 metal housing mounts on a DIN rail, and LEDs show CAN bus, fibre and power status for quick diagnostics.

Features

- Converts CAN signals to fibre and back, extending networks up to 40 km
- Supports CAN 2.0A, CAN 2.0B and CAN FD, conforming with ISO 11898
- CAN 2.0 auto-baudrate with arbitration rates up to 1 Mbps
- CAN FD data rates up to 5 Mbps
- Built-in 2 kV isolation protects against ground loops and noise
- Dual power inputs for redundancy
- DIP switch for 120-ohm terminal resistance
- Rotary switches for CAN 2.0/CAN FD arbitration and data rate configuration
- LEDs for CAN bus, fibre and power status diagnostics
- Wide-temperature -T model for -40 to 75°C environments

FAQs

Q: Do I need two converters to extend a CAN network over fibre?
A: Yes. The ICF-1171I-S-ST-T is used in pairs, with one converter at each end of the single-mode fibre link.

Q: What fibre type and distance does this model support?
A: It uses single-mode 9/125 µm (OS1) fibre with an ST connector and supports a typical distance of 40 km at 1310 nm.

Q: Does it support CAN FD?
A: Yes. It supports CAN 2.0A, CAN 2.0B and CAN FD, selectable by DIP switch, with CAN FD data rates up to 5 Mbps.

Q: What does the -T in the model name mean?
A: The -T suffix indicates the wide-temperature version, rated for operation from -40 to 75°C.

Q: What power supply does it need?
A: It accepts 12 to 48 VDC on two redundant power inputs via a terminal block, drawing up to 188.5 mA.

Q: How is it mounted?
A: The IP30 metal housing mounts on a DIN rail, or on a wall using the optional wall-mount kit.
