Description

The Moxa ICF-1150I-M-SC-IEX is an industrial RS-232/422/485 serial-to-fiber converter with a multi-mode SC fibre port, 2 kV isolation and IECEx, ATEX Zone 2 and UL/cUL C1D2 hazardous-location certification. It extends serial transmission up to 5 km over 850 nm multi-mode fibre and operates across a 0 to 60 C temperature range, making it well suited to plants, substations and process environments where noise immunity and long-distance serial links are required.

Housed in an IP30 metal case with DIN-rail mounting, the converter accepts 12 to 48 VDC power and supports baud rates from 50 bps to 921.6 kbps, including non-standard rates. A rotary switch sets the pull high/low resistor value, and automatic data direction control simplifies RS-485 deployments without extra configuration.

Features

- 3-way communication: RS-232, RS-422/485 and fibre
- Extends RS-232/422/485 transmission up to 5 km over multi-mode fibre
- 2 kV galvanic isolation for improved noise immunity
- Rotary switch to change the pull high/low resistor value
- Automatic data direction control (ADDC) for RS-485
- IECEx, ATEX and C1D2 certified for hazardous industrial environments
- Overload current protection on the power input

FAQs

Q: What fibre type and distance does the ICF-1150I-M-SC-IEX support?
A: It uses multi-mode fibre (50/125 um or 62.5/125 um) with an SC connector at 850 nm, and supports transmission distances of up to 5 km.

Q: Which serial standards does this converter support?
A: It supports RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485. RS-232 uses the DB9 female connector, while RS-422/485 uses the 5-pin terminal block.

Q: Is this model approved for hazardous locations?
A: Yes. This IEX variant carries IECEx, ATEX Zone 2 and UL/cUL Class I Division 2 Groups A/B/C/D approvals.

Q: What is the operating temperature range?
A: This model operates from 0 to 60 C. It can be stored from -40 to 85 C.

Q: How is the converter powered and mounted?
A: It runs on 12 to 48 VDC via a terminal block, draws up to 300 mA, and mounts on a DIN rail in an IP30 metal housing.

Q: Does it need a fibre converter at the other end of the link?
A: Yes. A fibre link needs a compatible multi-mode device at each end, such as a second ICF-1150 multi-mode SC unit, to complete the serial-over-fibre connection.
