Description

The Arista SFP-10G-ERBD-D is a 10GBASE-ERBD BiDi SFP+ transceiver designed for the downlink direction, delivering 10Gbps full-duplex transmission over a single strand of single-mode fibre at distances up to 40km. Using WDM technology with a simplex LC connector, it transmits at 1330nm and receives at 1270nm simultaneously — cutting fibre strand requirements in half and significantly reducing infrastructure costs in long-reach enterprise and data centre deployments.

This transceiver must be paired with the complementary SFP-10G-ERBD-U uplink unit at the far end for correct bidirectional operation. It supports Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) for real-time link diagnostics, is hot-swappable for minimal downtime, and is compatible with Arista EOS 4.21.3 and later platforms. Note: optical attenuation is required on shorter links to protect the receiver. Need it fast? iptrading.com.au delivers across Australia — shop now.

Features

- BiDi WDM technology enables full-duplex 10G transmission over a single fibre strand — no second fibre required
- Reduces fibre infrastructure costs by up to 50% in long-reach deployments
- Simplex LC connector with integrated DFB transmitter and PIN receiver for compact, reliable operation
- Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) provides real-time visibility into TX power, RX power, temperature, and voltage
- Hot-swappable design allows field replacement without powering down the host device
- Compliant with SFP+ MSA (SFF-8432) and IEEE 802.3ae 10GBASE-ER BiDi standards
- Must be paired with SFP-10G-ERBD-U at the far end for correct bidirectional operation
- Supported on Arista EOS 4.21.3 and later — consult Arista Transceiver and Cable Guide for platform-specific compatibility

FAQs

Q: What is the maximum reach of the SFP-10G-ERBD-D?
A: The SFP-10G-ERBD-D supports links up to 40km over a single strand of single-mode fibre (SMF/OS2), making it suitable for long-reach enterprise WAN, campus backbone, and data centre interconnect applications.

Q: Do I need a matched pair for this transceiver?
A: Yes. The SFP-10G-ERBD-D (Tx 1330nm / Rx 1270nm) is the downlink unit and must be paired with the SFP-10G-ERBD-U (Tx 1270nm / Rx 1330nm) at the far end. Mixing mismatched wavelengths will prevent the link from establishing.

Q: Why does this BiDi transceiver only use one fibre strand?
A: The SFP-10G-ERBD-D uses WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology to carry transmit and receive signals on different wavelengths over the same single fibre strand. This reduces fibre plant requirements by 50%, which is especially valuable in conduit-constrained or high-cost fibre environments.

Q: Is optical attenuation required when deploying the SFP-10G-ERBD-D?
A: Yes. On shorter links where the received optical power may exceed the receiver's maximum input level, in-line optical attenuators must be used to avoid receiver damage and ensure a stable, error-free link.

Q: Which Arista platforms are compatible with this transceiver?
A: The SFP-10G-ERBD-D requires Arista EOS version 4.21.3 or later. For a full list of supported Arista switches and line cards, refer to the Arista Transceiver and Cable Compatibility Guide available on the Arista website.

Q: Can I purchase the SFP-10G-ERBD-D in Australia from IP Trading?
A: Yes. IP Trading (iptrading.com.au) is an Australian B2B IT hardware reseller stocking Arista transceivers with fast delivery nationwide. Contact our team for pricing, availability, and volume enquiries.
