The SFP-10G-ERBD-D-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Arista SFP-10G-ERBD-D. This transceiver operates plug-and-play in Arista platforms running EOS 4.21.3 or later. - 10GBASE-BX40-D standard compliance ensures interoperability with BiDi-capable 10G SFP+ ports - SFP+ form factor, 10Gbps data rate, 1330nm transmit and 1270nm receive wavelengths, up to 40km over single-mode fiber - BiDi WDM technology transmits and receives on a single fiber strand via simplex LC connector, halving fiber infrastructure requirements - Must be deployed in matched pairs with SFP-10G-ERBD-U uplink module at the far end for correct bidirectional operation - DDM support provides real-time monitoring of optical power, temperature, voltage, and laser bias current - Hot-swappable design for live insertion and removal without network disruption

Q: Why must this be used with the SFP-10G-ERBD-U uplink module?
A: BiDi transceivers use wavelength-division multiplexing with complementary wavelength pairs. The downlink module (this unit) transmits at 1330nm and receives at 1270nm, while the uplink module transmits at 1270nm and receives at 1330nm. Pairing two downlink or two uplink modules will result in both ends transmitting and receiving on the same wavelengths, preventing communication. The wavelengths must be matched correctly for bidirectional operation.

Q: Does this transceiver require optical attenuation on shorter links?
A: Yes. This transceiver is designed for extended reach up to 40km and has a high optical budget. On links shorter than the minimum specified distance, the received optical power may exceed the maximum input threshold of the receiver, potentially causing link errors or permanent damage. Consult the optical power specifications and use inline attenuators if the link budget calculation indicates overload.

Q: Can I mix this transceiver with other vendor BiDi modules with the same wavelengths?
A: In principle, any IEEE 802.3ae 10GBASE-BX compliant transceiver with matching wavelengths (1330nm TX / 1270nm RX on one end, 1270nm TX / 1330nm RX on the other) should interoperate. However, host platform coding may prevent third-party transceivers from being recognized. For guaranteed compatibility, use matching BCC or Arista modules on both ends of the link.
