A: This module supports OM1, OM2, OM3, and OM4 multi-mode fibre. Typical reach is 26m over OM1, 82m over OM2, 300m over OM3, and 400m over OM4. Actual distance depends on fibre quality, connector loss, and the 4.6 dB minimum optical budget. Use 50/125 micron fibre for best performance.

Q: Can I monitor link health and optical power levels with this transceiver?
A: Yes. This transceiver includes DOM functionality per SFF-8472, exposing five real-time parameters via I2C: temperature, supply voltage, transmit bias current, transmit optical power, and receive optical power. Access these through your switch CLI or management interface to identify marginal links, dirty connectors, or failing lasers before they cause outages.

Q: Does this transceiver support Gigabit Ethernet or is it 10G only?
A: The transceiver chipset is multi-rate capable (1.25 to 10.31 Gbps), supporting both Gigabit Ethernet (1.25 Gbps) and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10.31 Gbps) operation. The active data rate is determined by the host port configuration. If your Sophos port is configured for 1G, the transceiver will operate at 1G; if configured for 10G, it operates at 10G.
