Q: What is the actual reach on OM3 versus OM4 fibre, and does fibre quality matter?
A: With RS-FEC enabled on the host port, this module supports 70m on OM3 (2000 MHz·km modal bandwidth) and 100m on OM4 (4700 MHz·km modal bandwidth). Reach is determined by the link's optical budget and fibre insertion loss. Poor quality patch cords, dirty connectors, or excessive splice loss can reduce effective distance even on spec-compliant fibre.

Q: Why does this module require RS-FEC, and what happens without it?
A: RS-FEC (Reed-Solomon Forward Error Correction) on the host port corrects bit errors introduced by the 25G signaling rate, enabling the module to achieve full 70m/100m reach on OM3/OM4. Without RS-FEC, reach may be limited to approximately 30m on OM3 and 50m on OM4 depending on link quality, as the uncorrected bit error rate degrades with distance.

Q: Can I use this module at 10G, or is it 25G-only?
A: This is a 25G-only module compliant with IEEE 802.3by 25GBASE-SR. It does not support dual-rate 10G/25G operation. For ports that need to auto-negotiate between 10GBASE-SR and 25GBASE-SR, use the Cisco SFP-10/25G-CSR-S equivalent instead, which is specifically designed for dual-rate functionality across both speeds.
