Description

The SFP-1G-T-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Arista SFP-1G-T. This copper transceiver operates plug-and-play in Arista switches and routers equipped with SFP ports. - IEEE 802.3 and 802.3ab compliance ensures interoperability with standards-based 1000BASE-T networks - SFP form factor delivering 1000 Mbps over Cat5, Cat5e, or Cat6 copper cable up to 100 metres - Auto-negotiation supports 10/100/1000 Mbps data rates for mixed-speed copper environments - RJ-45 connector enables cost-effective deployment over existing structured cabling - Hot-swappable design allows live insertion and removal with minimal network disruption - Commercial temperature range 0 to 70 degrees Celsius with low power consumption under 1W

Features

• IEEE 802.3ab 1000BASE-T compliance guarantees full-duplex Gigabit Ethernet over four pairs of twisted copper, backward-compatible with 100BASE-TX and 10BASE-T via auto-negotiation
• Hot-swappable SFP form factor conforms to SFP MSA, enabling insertion and removal from live systems without powering down the host switch or disrupting adjacent ports
• Auto-negotiation chipset detects and adapts to 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, or 1000 Mbps link speeds, supporting mixed-speed copper infrastructure without manual configuration
• Commercial temperature specification (0 to 70 degrees Celsius) suits rack-mounted switches and routers in climate-controlled data centres and enterprise network closets
• RJ-45 interface delivers 1 Gbps over legacy Cat5 cable at 100 metres, or extends compatibility to Cat5e and Cat6 for improved crosstalk margins in high-density bundles
• Sub-1W power draw reduces thermal load per port, critical in fully populated 48-port switches where cumulative heat dissipation impacts airflow and chassis temperature

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Arista SFP-1G-T?
A: Yes. The SFP-1G-T-BCC is a direct replacement delivering the same 1000BASE-T functionality over copper via RJ-45 connector. It is IEEE 802.3ab compliant, operates at 1000 Mbps, and provides plug-and-play compatibility with Arista platforms equipped with SFP ports.

Q: Which Arista platforms support this transceiver?
A: This module works in any Arista switch or router with SFP slots that accept 1000BASE-T copper transceivers. Compatibility depends on the port supporting copper SFP modules; consult the Arista Transceiver and Cable Guide or your platform datasheet to confirm SFP-1G-T support for your specific model and EOS release.

Q: Does this transceiver support auto-negotiation between 10/100/1000 speeds?
A: Yes. The chipset auto-negotiates 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 1000BASE-T rates depending on the link partner capability. This allows seamless integration into mixed-speed copper networks where legacy 100 Mbps devices coexist with Gigabit endpoints, eliminating the need for manual speed configuration.

Q: Can I monitor link health and temperature using DDM or DOM on this module?
A: No. Copper transceivers with RJ-45 interfaces do not support Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) or Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM). These features are available only on optical transceivers. Link status and speed can still be monitored via standard Ethernet interface statistics on the host platform.

Q: What is the maximum cable length for 1000 Mbps operation?
A: 100 metres over Cat5, Cat5e, or Cat6 unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable, as defined by IEEE 802.3ab. This distance assumes compliant cabling and connectors; degraded or non-compliant cable may reduce effective reach. At 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps rates, the same 100-metre limit applies per IEEE 802.3 standards.
