Description

The Juniper QSFP-P-4X10GE-SR is a 40G QSFP+ optical transceiver that breaks out into four 10GBASE-SR channels over multimode fibre. It uses a single MPO-12 connector and reaches 300 m on OM3 or 400 m on OM4 at 850 nm, making it a practical choice for splitting one 40G port into four 10G links inside the data centre or across a campus core.

The module has a standard operating temperature range of 0 to 70 C and supports digital optical monitoring in line with SFF-8636 for live diagnostics. It draws a maximum of 3.5 W and is supported on a wide range of Juniper platforms. Check the Juniper Hardware Compatibility Tool to confirm support for your specific switch or router.

Features

- Breaks one 40G QSFP+ port out into four 10GBASE-SR lanes
- MPO-12 connector for high-density multimode cabling
- Digital optical monitoring for real-time diagnostics
- Standard temperature range suited to climate-controlled data centres
- Supported on many Juniper platforms including MX304, MX480, ACX5096, PTX10003 and EX4650-48Y
- On MX304 with Junos 23.R1 or later, can be used as a 4x1G breakout with 1G-SX optics

FAQs

Q: What fibre distances does this transceiver support?
A: It supports up to 300 m on OM3 multimode fibre and up to 400 m on OM4 multimode fibre.

Q: What connector and cabling does it need?
A: It uses an MPO-12 connector. For breakout use, pair it with an MPO-12 to 4x duplex LC breakout cable suited to 850 nm multimode fibre.

Q: Can I use it as a standard 40G link instead of a breakout?
A: This module is designed to break out into four 10GBASE-SR lanes. For a 40G to 40G link, use a 40GBASE-SR4 optic at both ends.

Q: Does it support digital optical monitoring?
A: Yes. It provides full digital optical monitoring in line with SFF-8636, so you can read optical power, temperature and other diagnostics from the host platform.

Q: Which Juniper platforms support this module?
A: It is supported on many Juniper platforms, including MX304, MX480, ACX5096, PTX10003 and EX4650-48Y. Check the Juniper Hardware Compatibility Tool for the full list and required Junos versions.

Q: What temperature range is it rated for?
A: This is the standard temperature variant, rated for operation from 0 to 70 C.
