Description

The JL309A-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Aruba JL309A. This QSFP28 transceiver provides plug-and-play 100GBASE-SR4 connectivity for Aruba switches and routers. - IEEE 802.3bm 100GBASE-SR4 and QSFP28 MSA compliance guarantee interoperability across multi-vendor networks - QSFP28 form factor with 100GB aggregate throughput across 4 independent full-duplex 25GB lanes over MPO-12 connector - 850nm VCSEL transmitter supports up to 70m over OM3 or 100m over OM4 multi-mode fibre - Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) provides real-time visibility into transmit power, receive power, temperature, and voltage - Breakout capable to 4x 25GBASE-SR SFP28 for flexible deployment options - Commercial temperature range 0 to 70C with maximum power consumption of 3.5W

Features

• IEEE 802.3bm 100GBASE-SR4 compliance ensures native compatibility with standards-compliant 100GB Ethernet switches and routers without protocol negotiation
• Four independent 25.78125 Gbps electrical lanes (CAUI-4 interface) map to four optical lanes at 850nm over parallel MMF ribbon via MPO-12 connector
• VCSEL transmitter architecture delivers low power consumption and high reliability with 1.9 dB minimum optical budget for link margin in enterprise fibre plants
• Digital diagnostics via I2C interface expose per-lane transmit power, receive power, temperature, and supply voltage for in-service monitoring without traffic disruption
• Supports 4x 25GBASE-SR breakout over MPO-to-LC fanout cable, enabling migration from 25GB to 100GB uplinks without replacing switch hardware
• Hot-swappable design allows field installation and removal without powering down the host platform or interrupting adjacent ports

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Aruba JL309A?
A: Yes. This transceiver is a drop-in replacement for the Aruba JL309A with identical electrical and optical specifications. It conforms to IEEE 802.3bm 100GBASE-SR4 and QSFP28 MSA standards, delivering 100GB throughput over the same CAUI-4 host interface and 850nm parallel optics. The module is plug-and-play in any Aruba platform with QSFP28 ports rated for 100GBASE-SR4.

Q: Which Aruba platforms support this transceiver?
A: This transceiver works in any Aruba switch or router with QSFP28 ports that support 100GBASE-SR4 operation over multi-mode fibre. Compatibility is determined by the host port supporting the CAUI-4 electrical interface and 100GB Ethernet standards, not by a specific platform model. Consult your platform documentation to confirm QSFP28 port support.

Q: What are the fibre requirements for reaching 100m?
A: Reaching 100m requires OM4 multi-mode fibre with maximum attenuation of 2.9 dB/km at 850nm and minimum modal bandwidth of 4700 MHz·km. Over OM3 fibre (2000 MHz·km), maximum reach is reduced to 70m. The module provides 1.9 dB optical budget, which accommodates fibre loss, connector insertion loss, and splice loss within this distance. OM5 fibre also supports 100m with identical attenuation limits.

Q: Can I use this in a 40GB port or mix it with 40GBASE-SR4 modules?
A: No. This module operates exclusively at 100GB and requires a host port with CAUI-4 electrical signalling at 103.125 Gbps aggregate. It is not backward-compatible with 40GB QSFP+ ports, which use XLAUI signalling at 41.25 Gbps. Attempting to insert this module into a 40GB port may prevent link negotiation or damage the module or port. Only install in ports explicitly rated for QSFP28 100GB operation.

Q: Does this transceiver support Forward Error Correction (FEC)?
A: FEC operation is controlled by the host switch, not the transceiver. 100GBASE-SR4 over short-reach multi-mode fibre typically does not require FEC for error-free transmission within the specified 70m or 100m reach. If your platform enables Reed-Solomon FEC (RS-FEC) or Fire Code FEC (FC-FEC) on the port, the transceiver will transparently pass corrected data without additional configuration.
