Description

The JD120B-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Aruba JD120B. This SFP transceiver delivers plug-and-play compatibility with Aruba switches, routers, and network interface cards requiring 100BASE-LX connectivity. - 100BASE-LX standard compliance guarantees interoperability with Fast Ethernet and STM-1/OC-3 equipment - SFP form factor, 100 Mbps data rate, 1310nm wavelength, single-mode fibre, 10km reach over LC duplex connector - DDM/DOM support provides real-time monitoring of optical power, temperature, and link diagnostics - Hot-swappable design enables installation and replacement without network downtime - Operating temperature range of 0 to 70°C supports standard commercial networking environments - MSA compliant design ensures mechanical and electrical compatibility with SFP ports from any vendor

Features

• 100BASE-LX and STM-1/OC-3 dual-application support allows the same transceiver to serve Fast Ethernet or SONET/SDH roles depending on host port configuration, providing deployment flexibility across mixed network architectures
• FP (Fabry-Perot) laser technology at 1310nm offers cost-effective single-mode transmission with adequate dispersion tolerance for 10km links, balancing performance and economics for campus and metro edge applications
• DDM/DOM diagnostic interface exposes TX/RX optical power, laser bias current, temperature, and voltage in real-time, enabling proactive link health monitoring and rapid fault isolation without external test equipment
• MSA SFF-8472 compliance ensures mechanical fit, electrical pinout, and digital diagnostic interface standards are met, guaranteeing interoperability with SFP ports from Aruba, Cisco, Juniper, and other vendors in mixed deployments
• Hot-swappable operation allows field installation and removal while the switch remains powered, reducing maintenance windows and supporting incremental network expansion without service interruption
• Commercial temperature rating (0 to 70°C) suits standard data centre and office environments; optical budget supports 10km reach over G.652 single-mode fibre with typical 0.35 dB/km attenuation and modest connector loss
• Low power consumption and dual LC fibre interface simplify cabling and patch panel design compared to fixed copper interfaces, supporting structured fibre backbone architectures in enterprise LAN and ISP access networks

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Aruba JD120B?
A: Yes. The JD120B-BCC provides identical 100BASE-LX functionality using the same SFP form factor, 1310nm wavelength, 100 Mbps data rate, and 10km single-mode fibre reach. It is plug-and-play compatible with Aruba equipment and meets MSA standards for seamless integration.

Q: Which Aruba platforms support this transceiver?
A: This transceiver is compatible with Aruba switches, routers, and network interface cards featuring SFP ports that support 100BASE-LX or STM-1/OC-3 operation. Specific platform compatibility depends on the host port capability; consult your switch datasheet to confirm SFP 100M support. It has been tested with HPE/Aruba X-series and older ProCurve equipment with 100M SFP slots.

Q: What fibre type and connector polish are required for 10km reach?
A: This transceiver requires OS2 or better single-mode fibre (9/125 micron core/cladding) with LC duplex connectors. Use PC (Physical Contact) or UPC (Ultra Physical Contact) polished connectors; both are compatible. APC (Angled Physical Contact) connectors are not recommended. At 1310nm with an optical budget of approximately 19 dB, typical reach is 10-15km depending on fibre quality, splice loss, and connector condition.

Q: Can I access DDM diagnostics on Aruba switches running AOS-CX or AOS-S?
A: Yes. Both AOS-CX and AOS-S operating systems support DDM via CLI commands such as 'show interfaces transceiver detail'. You can monitor TX power, RX power, temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage in real-time. Threshold alarms and warnings are reported if optical power drifts outside normal operating range, aiding proactive link maintenance.

Q: Does this transceiver support auto-negotiation or require manual speed configuration?
A: The transceiver itself does not perform auto-negotiation; it provides fixed-rate 100 Mbps physical layer signalling. The host switch port must be configured for 100 Mbps full-duplex operation. Most Aruba platforms auto-detect SFP presence and adjust port speed automatically, but if the port defaults to 1000 Mbps or auto-negotiation, you may need to manually set the port to 100 Mbps full-duplex to establish link.
