Q: Which Fortinet platforms support this transceiver?
A: This module works in any Fortinet system with SFP+ slots, including FortiGate firewall and FortiSwitch models. The Fortinet datasheet specifies compatibility with systems supporting SFP+ transceivers at the 10GE rate. If your device has an SFP+ port and supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet, this module will work.

Q: Why does this module support both multimode and single-mode fiber?
A: The 10GBASE-LRM standard was designed to extend 10G transmission over legacy multimode fiber using 1310nm wavelength and electronic dispersion compensation. Because 1310nm is also a common single-mode wavelength, the same optical engine can reach 300m on standard G.652 single-mode fiber, though this extended capability is not formally defined in the IEEE 802.3aq specification.

Q: What is the reach difference between OM1, OM2, OM3, and single-mode fiber?
A: The IEEE 802.3aq standard specifies 220m reach on FDDI-grade multimode fiber (62.5/125 micron). This same 220m reach applies to OM1, OM2, and OM3 multimode fiber types when using the LRM module. On single-mode G.652 fiber, the module can extend to 300m, though this is considered a vendor-specific feature outside the formal 10GBASE-LRM standard.

Q: Does this module require any FEC or special configuration in FortiOS?
A: No. The 10GBASE-LRM standard operates at the physical layer with built-in electronic dispersion compensation, and no forward error correction (FEC) or command-line configuration is required. Fortinet systems recognize compatible transceivers automatically. The module is hot-swappable and will be detected immediately upon insertion into an SFP+ slot.
