Description

The FN-TRAN-SFP-1BD10-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Fortinet FN-TRAN-SFP-1BD10. Compliant with IEEE 802.3ah and the 1000BASE-BX10 standard, it delivers plug-and-play Gigabit Ethernet over single-mode fibre in Fortinet systems with SFP or SFP+ slots. - 1000BASE-BX10 standard guarantees bidirectional Gigabit Ethernet over a single fibre strand - SFP form factor, 1.25 Gbps data rate, single-mode fibre, 10 km reach, simplex LC connector - BiDi wavelength pairing: TX 1490 nm / RX 1310 nm (pairs with FN-TRAN-SFP-1BU10 at the far end) - Extended operating temperature range: -40 to 85 degrees C - DOM support for real-time monitoring of optical parameters via the management plane

Features

• IEEE 802.3ah compliance ensures full interoperability with 1000BASE-BX10 infrastructure and allows bidirectional transmission over a single fibre strand
• BiDi architecture transmits at 1490 nm and receives at 1310 nm, requiring a complementary transceiver (FN-TRAN-1BU10) at the opposite end of the link
• Single LC simplex connector reduces fibre count and simplifies cabling in campus and metro fibre deployments where fibre availability is constrained
• Extended industrial temperature range (-40 to 85 degrees C) supports outdoor enclosures, remote installations, and harsh environments without active cooling
• Digital optical monitoring exposes TX power, RX power, temperature, voltage, and bias current through the I2C interface for link diagnostics and proactive maintenance
• Hot-swappable in SFP and SFP+ slots without disrupting adjacent ports or requiring system downtime

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Fortinet FN-TRAN-SFP-1BD10?
A: Yes. This transceiver is designed as a direct replacement for the FN-TRAN-SFP-1BD10, matching the 1000BASE-BX10 standard, 1.25 Gbps data rate, SFP form factor, and 1490/1310 nm BiDi wavelength pairing. It operates plug-and-play in any Fortinet system with SFP or SFP+ slots.

Q: Which Fortinet platforms support this transceiver?
A: This transceiver is compatible with Fortinet systems that have SFP or SFP+ slots and support 1000BASE-BX10. The Fortinet datasheet confirms compatibility with systems rated for SFP+ slots. Verify your specific FortiGate or FortiSwitch model supports Gigabit SFP transceivers.

Q: Why does this BiDi transceiver require a specific partner at the other end?
A: BiDi transceivers use wavelength division multiplexing over a single fibre. This downstream (D) variant transmits at 1490 nm and receives at 1310 nm. The far end must use an upstream (U) variant that transmits at 1310 nm and receives at 1490 nm, such as the FN-TRAN-SFP-1BU10, to complete the bidirectional link.

Q: What fibre type and link budget does this transceiver require for 10 km reach?
A: This transceiver requires OS1 or OS2 single-mode fibre and is specified for 10 km maximum reach per the 1000BASE-BX10 standard. Actual distance depends on fibre quality, splice loss, connector loss, and accumulated link budget. Clean connectors and low-loss patch panels are critical for reaching the full 10 km distance.

Q: Can I access DOM data while the link is live?
A: Yes. The transceiver exposes real-time diagnostic data over the I2C interface, including transmit power, receive power, temperature, supply voltage, and laser bias current. These parameters can be polled from the Fortinet CLI or management interface without interrupting traffic, enabling proactive troubleshooting and link quality monitoring.
