Description

The FN-TRAN-QSFP28-LR-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Fortinet FN-TRAN-QSFP28-LR. This transceiver operates in Fortinet systems with QSFP28 slots, offering plug-and-play compatibility. - IEEE 802.3ba 100GBASE-LR4 compliance ensures interoperability with standard 100 Gigabit Ethernet infrastructure - QSFP28 form factor delivering 103.1 Gbps over single-mode fibre to 10km via duplex LC connector - Four LAN WDM channels at 1295.56nm, 1300.05nm, 1304.58nm, and 1309.14nm multiplexed for full-duplex transmission - Digital diagnostic monitoring (DOM) provides real-time access to optical power, temperature, bias current, and voltage parameters - Hot-swappable QSFP28 MSA compliant module with 0 to 70 degree Celsius operating temperature range - Suitable for data center interconnect, campus networks, and metro applications requiring 100G long-reach connectivity

Features

• IEEE 802.3ba 100GBASE-LR4 standard compliance guarantees interoperability with 100 Gigabit Ethernet switches, routers, and network interface cards across multiple vendors
• Four-lane LAN WDM architecture multiplexes 4 x 25.78 Gbps electrical channels into discrete optical wavelengths, then combines them into a single duplex fibre pair for efficient infrastructure utilization
• Cooled LAN WDM EA-DFB transmitters and high-sensitivity PIN receivers deliver the optical link budget required for 10km single-mode fibre deployments
• Digital diagnostic monitoring via I2C interface exposes real-time transceiver parameters including transmit and receive optical power, enabling proactive link monitoring and troubleshooting
• Hot-swappable installation allows module insertion and removal without interrupting host equipment operation or requiring system shutdown
• QSFP28 MSA mechanical and electrical compliance ensures drop-in compatibility with standard QSFP28 host ports
• Commercial temperature range (0 to 70 degrees Celsius) with power consumption under 3.5W suits high-density switch and router deployments

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Fortinet FN-TRAN-QSFP28-LR?
A: Yes. This transceiver is engineered to the same IEEE 802.3ba 100GBASE-LR4 standard, uses the same QSFP28 form factor, and delivers the same 103.1 Gbps data rate over single-mode fibre to 10km. It is plug-and-play compatible with Fortinet systems that accept the FN-TRAN-QSFP28-LR.

Q: Which Fortinet platforms support this transceiver?
A: This transceiver is compatible with Fortinet systems featuring QSFP28 slots, including FortiGate and FortiSwitch platforms. Consult your equipment documentation to confirm QSFP28 slot availability and 100GBASE-LR4 support on your specific model.

Q: How does the four-wavelength LAN WDM architecture work?
A: The transceiver multiplexes four independent 25.78 Gbps electrical lanes onto four discrete optical wavelengths (1295.56nm, 1300.05nm, 1304.58nm, 1309.14nm), then combines them into a single fibre pair. On receive, it demultiplexes the incoming signal back into four electrical lanes. This allows 100 Gbps full-duplex transmission over standard duplex LC single-mode fibre.

Q: What fibre type and patch cable are required for 10km reach?
A: This transceiver requires OS2 single-mode fibre (G.652 compliant) with duplex LC connectors. The 10km reach assumes standard fibre attenuation and the module's specified optical link budget. OM3 or OM4 multi-mode fibre is not compatible with this LR4 module.

Q: Can I access diagnostic data while the link is active?
A: Yes. The transceiver supports digital diagnostic monitoring per QSFP28 MSA specification via I2C interface. You can read transmit optical power, receive optical power, module temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage in real time without disrupting the active link, enabling proactive monitoring and fault isolation.
