Description

The FN-CABLE-QSFP28-X-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Fortinet FN-CABLE-QSFP28-1. This passive copper cable is plug-and-play compatible with Fortinet systems with QSFP28 slots. - Compliant with IEEE 802.3bj 100GBASE-CR4 and QSFP28 MSA SFF-8665 standards, ensuring full compatibility with 100G Ethernet systems - QSFP28 form factor, passive copper twinax construction, 100Gb/s data rate over four 25Gb/s lanes - Operating temperature range: 0°C to 70°C - Available in 1m, 2m, 3m, and 5m lengths for flexible intra-rack and adjacent rack interconnects - Power-efficient passive design with maximum 1.5W power consumption per connector - Hot-swappable for simplified maintenance and reduced downtime

Features

• IEEE 802.3bj 100GBASE-CR4 compliance guarantees four-lane electrical signaling at 25.78Gb/s per channel for full 100G throughput without protocol translation
• Four shielded twinax copper pairs deliver low insertion loss and ultra-low crosstalk for reliable short-reach connectivity within and between racks
• Passive copper design eliminates active electronics in the cable assembly, reducing power draw to 1.5W per connector and simplifying thermal management
• Hot-swappable QSFP28 connectors with EEPROM memory support I2C interface for host system identification and interoperability
• Operating temperature range of 0°C to 70°C suits standard data center environments without extended-temperature hardware requirements
• Four cable length options (1m, 2m, 3m, 5m) accommodate variable rack topologies and cable management constraints in spine-leaf or top-of-rack designs
• Compatible with systems using QSFP28 slots that adhere to MSA SFF-8665 mechanical and electrical specifications

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Fortinet FN-CABLE-QSFP28-1?
A: Yes. This cable is a direct replacement for the FN-CABLE-QSFP28-1 and meets the same IEEE 802.3bj 100GBASE-CR4 standard with QSFP28 form factor and 100Gb/s data rate. It is plug-and-play compatible with Fortinet systems with QSFP28 slots and operates from 0°C to 70°C.

Q: Which Fortinet devices support this cable?
A: This cable works in any Fortinet switch, router, or appliance with QSFP28 slots supporting 100G Ethernet. If your system has a QSFP28 port and supports 100GBASE-CR4, this cable will function without configuration changes.

Q: What is the maximum reach for passive copper at 100Gb/s?
A: Passive copper DAC cables for 100GBASE-CR4 reliably support distances up to 5m over twinax. Beyond 5m, signal integrity degrades and active optical cables (AOC) are recommended. The four available lengths (1m, 2m, 3m, 5m) cover standard intra-rack and adjacent rack scenarios.

Q: Does this cable support InfiniBand EDR or only Ethernet?
A: This cable is specified for IEEE 802.3bj 100GBASE-CR4 Ethernet. While 100G passive twinax cables often share electrical characteristics with InfiniBand EDR (4 x 25Gb/s), compatibility depends on the host system EEPROM interpretation. This cable is programmed and tested for Fortinet Ethernet platforms.

Q: Can I mix different cable lengths in the same switch?
A: Yes. Each cable is an independent point-to-point connection and does not interact with other ports. You can deploy 1m cables for intra-rack connections and 3m or 5m cables for adjacent rack links in the same system without signal interference or configuration requirements.
