Description

Blue Cable Co 40GbE QSFP+ active optical cables (AOC) deliver reliable 40Gb/s connectivity between QSFP+ ports over multi-mode fibre, compatible with NVIDIA Mellanox platforms. Unlike passive DAC cables, AOCs integrate VCSEL-based optical transceivers directly into the QSFP+ connectors at each end, enabling much longer reaches than copper while remaining hot-pluggable and plug-and-play. Available in lengths from 3m to 30m, these cables are plenum rated (OFNP) and suited to data centre deployments where reach, cable management, or fire rating requirements rule out passive copper.

  • Plug-and-play active optical cable — no separate transceivers required
  • 40GbE QSFP+ to QSFP+ AOC, NVIDIA Mellanox compatible
  • Available in 3m, 5m, 10m, 15m, 20m, and 30m lengths — select your variant above
  • VCSEL-based optics integrated into QSFP+ connectors at both ends
  • 40Gb/s aggregate over four multi-mode fibre lanes at up to 10.3125Gb/s per lane
  • IEEE 802.3ba 40GbE compliant
  • Plenum rated (OFNP) — suitable for in-ceiling and raised-floor data centre environments
  • Hot-pluggable for live insertion without system downtime
  • BER better than 1E-15
  • Operating case temperature range: 0°C to +70°C
  • Power consumption: 0.8W typical, 1W maximum
  • RoHS compliant and Class 1 laser safe

FAQs

Q1: Which NVIDIA Mellanox platforms are these 40GbE QSFP+ AOC cables compatible with?
A1: These AOC cables are compatible with NVIDIA Mellanox switches and NICs that have QSFP+ ports supporting 40GbE connections. They are designed as compatible replacements for the OEM MC2210310 series. Contact our team to confirm fit for a specific platform before ordering.

Q2: What is the difference between an AOC and a passive DAC cable — which should I use?
A2: A passive DAC cable uses copper conductors and works only over short distances — typically up to 5m. An AOC uses optical fibre with active VCSEL transceivers built into the connectors at each end, enabling much longer reaches (up to 30m in this range) while remaining lightweight and easy to route. AOCs are the better choice when you need more than 5m of reach, prefer thinner and more flexible cabling, or have plenum fire rating requirements.

Q3: Do these AOC cables require separate transceivers to be installed?
A3: No. The optical transceivers are integrated directly into the QSFP+ connectors at both ends of the cable. The cable installs as a single unit into two QSFP+ ports — no separate SFP or QSFP transceivers are needed.

Q4: Are these cables plenum rated — can they be installed in ceiling or raised-floor environments?
A4: Yes. All variants in this range are OFNP plenum rated, making them suitable for installation in air-handling spaces such as raised floors and in-ceiling cable runs where fire and smoke safety ratings are required. Confirm your site's specific cabling standards before installation.

Q5: What lengths are available, and how do I choose?
A5: Six lengths are available: 3m, 5m, 10m, 15m, 20m, and 30m. For within-rack connections, 3m to 5m is typically sufficient. The 10m to 30m options suit cross-rack, end-of-row, or inter-cabinet runs. Select the length variant from the dropdown above.
