Description

The Arista SFP-10G-ERLBD-U is a 10GBASE-ERLBD BiDi SFP+ transceiver engineered for single-fibre single-mode operation at 10Gbps over distances up to 30km — ideal for metro backhaul, campus interconnects, and data centre uplinks where fibre infrastructure is at a premium. Transmitting at 1270nm and receiving at 1330nm via an LC simplex connector, this uplink variant cuts fibre consumption in half compared to conventional duplex solutions, making it the preferred choice for capacity-constrained deployments over ITU-T G.652 SMF.

Designed to integrate seamlessly into Arista SFP+ platforms running EOS 4.21.3 or later, the module supports Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DDM/DOM) for real-time visibility into optical performance and proactive fault management. It is hot-swappable for maximum uptime and complies with SFP+ MSA (SFF-8432) and IEEE 802.3ae open standards. Note: this uplink module must be paired with the complementary downlink variant (SFP-10G-ERLBD-D) at the far end. Order direct from iptrading.com.au — Australian-owned and operated since 2001.

Features

- Single-fibre BiDi design reduces fibre infrastructure requirements by 50% vs duplex solutions
- Extended reach up to 30km — suitable for metro backhaul and campus WAN interconnects
- Uplink wavelength pairing (Tx 1270nm / Rx 1330nm) — must be paired with SFP-10G-ERLBD-D (downlink) at the far end
- DDM/DOM support enables real-time monitoring of Tx power, Rx power, temperature, and voltage
- Hot-swappable for seamless field replacement without network downtime
- Compliant with SFP+ MSA (SFF-8432) and IEEE 802.3ae open standards
- Supported across Arista SFP+ platforms from EOS 4.21.3 and later
- Caution: optical attenuation required on short links to prevent receiver overload
- Part of Arista's comprehensive optics portfolio spanning 1GE to 400GE connectivity

FAQs

Q: What is the difference between the SFP-10G-ERLBD-U (uplink) and SFP-10G-ERLBD-D (downlink)?
A: These are complementary BiDi modules that must be used as a matched pair. The uplink variant (SFP-10G-ERLBD-U) transmits at 1270nm and receives at 1330nm, while the downlink variant (SFP-10G-ERLBD-D) does the reverse. One module is installed at each end of the single-fibre link — you cannot use two of the same variant together.

Q: What fibre type and connector does this transceiver require?
A: The SFP-10G-ERLBD-U requires single-mode fibre (SMF) compliant with ITU-T G.652 and uses an LC simplex connector. It supports links up to 30km on a single fibre strand.

Q: Is this transceiver compatible with all Arista switches?
A: The module is supported on Arista SFP+ platforms running EOS 4.21.3 or later. Check your specific platform's compatibility matrix or contact IP Trading to confirm compatibility with your Arista hardware.

Q: Does this module support Digital Diagnostics Monitoring?
A: Yes. The SFP-10G-ERLBD-U supports DDM/DOM, allowing network operators to monitor real-time optical parameters including transmit and receive power levels, temperature, supply voltage, and laser bias current — enabling proactive fault detection and simplified troubleshooting.

Q: What precaution should I take when deploying over short distances?
A: For links significantly shorter than 30km, proper optical attenuation must be applied to avoid overloading the receiver with excessive input power, which can cause permanent damage. Consult the Arista datasheet for minimum link loss requirements.

Q: Can I purchase this transceiver in Australia from IP Trading?
A: Yes. IP Trading (iptrading.com.au) is an Australian-owned and operated IT hardware reseller, in business since 2001. We stock Arista optics and can assist with compatibility queries, volume orders, and local technical support. Order directly through our website or contact our team.
