Description

The Arista QSFP-40G-UNIV is a 40 Gbps QSFP+ optical transceiver engineered for universal fibre compatibility, operating over both duplex multi-mode (OM3/OM4) and single-mode fibre (SMF) through a single duplex LC connector. Using CWDM technology across four 10 Gbps lanes, it reaches up to 150m on OM4 MMF and 500m on SMF — making it an ideal solution for enterprises migrating from 10G to 40G without replacing existing duplex fibre cabling infrastructure. This single transceiver replaces what would otherwise require separate MMF and SMF optics, delivering significant operational simplification and cost savings.

The QSFP-40G-UNIV supports Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) for real-time diagnostics, is optically interoperable with IEEE 40GBASE-LR4 and 40G-LRL4 transceivers from Cisco and other vendors, and is supported on all QSFP+ ports across the Arista switch portfolio from EOS 4.14.0 onwards.
