A: The cable supports up to 100m on OM3 multi-mode fibre and up to 150m on OM4. These distances assume the fibre meets laser-optimised specifications and link loss remains within the 40GBASE-AOC optical budget. The 850nm VCSEL transmitters and parallel lane design are optimised for these fibre types.

Q: Can I use this cable in breakout mode to connect four 10G SFP+ ports?
A: No. This is a 40G QSFP+ to QSFP+ cable with integrated transceivers at both ends, not a breakout cable. It carries a single 40GbE link over four parallel optical lanes. For 40G to 4x10G connectivity, you need a QSFP+ to 4xSFP+ breakout AOC or a QSFP+ SR4 transceiver with an MPO-to-duplex LC breakout fibre.

Q: What is the power consumption and does the cable require external power?
A: The cable draws less than 1.5W per assembly, powered entirely by the 3.3V supply from the host QSFP+ ports at both ends. No external power is required. The integrated active electronics provide signal conditioning and drive the 850nm VCSELs, enabling the extended reach compared to passive copper DAC cables while maintaining low power.
