Q: Will this work in place of the Dell 407-BBOS?
A: Yes. This transceiver is built to the same SFP MSA and IEEE 802.3ab (1000BASE-T) specifications as the Dell 407-BBOS, delivering the same 1.25 Gbps data rate and 100m reach over Cat5e or better copper. It is plug-and-play compatible with Dell Networking switches, routers, servers, and NICs that accept the 407-BBOS.

Q: Which Dell platforms support this transceiver?
A: This module works in Dell Networking N-Series (N2024, N2048, N3024, N3048 and variants), N4000 Series (N4032F, N4064, N4064F), PowerConnect switches, and Dell servers or NICs with SFP ports that support 1000BASE-T copper transceivers. Verify that your switch or NIC has an SFP slot and supports copper SFP modules.

Q: What cable category is required for full 100m reach?
A: Cat5e (Category 5 enhanced) or better is required. Cat5e supports Gigabit Ethernet to 100m. Cat6 or Cat6a will also work and may offer better margin in electrically noisy environments. Do not use older Cat5 cable, as it may not reliably support 1000BASE-T at full distance.

Q: Can I monitor link health and diagnostics with this module?
A: Yes. This transceiver includes DDM (Digital Diagnostics Monitoring) per SFF-8472, allowing the host device to read real-time operating parameters including transceiver temperature, supply voltage, and receiver signal strength. Access these values via CLI or network management software on compatible Dell platforms.

Q: Does this transceiver support Power over Ethernet passthrough?
A: No. SFP transceivers do not carry PoE. PoE is delivered directly by the switch port over the Ethernet cable independent of the transceiver module. This module provides the data path only; PoE functionality depends on the switch port hardware and configuration.
