Description

The Arista AOC-Q-Q-100G-7M is a 100GbE QSFP28 to QSFP28 Active Optical Cable delivering 100 Gbps aggregate throughput over 7 metres of laser-optimised multimode fibre. Designed for high-density data centre and high-performance computing environments, it uses four full-duplex 25 Gbps NRZ lanes to deliver low-latency, high-bandwidth interconnects between top-of-rack switches, spine switches, and compute nodes. The factory-terminated, MSA-compliant design ensures plug-and-play deployment with no additional cabling or SFP modules required.

Built-in Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) via I2C provides real-time visibility into link performance, while the low power dissipation of under 3.5W per end keeps energy costs in check across high-port-count architectures. The QSFP28 high-density form factor is fully compatible with Arista 100G platforms and MSA-compliant third-party equipment. Order direct from iptrading.com.au — Australian-owned and operated since 2001.

Features

FAQs

Q: What devices is the AOC-Q-Q-100G-7M compatible with?
A: The AOC-Q-Q-100G-7M is designed for use with Arista switches and routers equipped with QSFP28 ports, such as the 7050CX, 7060CX, and 7500R series. It is also MSA-compliant, making it compatible with QSFP28 ports on equipment from other vendors including Cisco, Juniper, and Mellanox, subject to platform-specific compatibility validation.

Q: What is the maximum distance supported by this cable?
A: This cable is a fixed-length 7-metre Active Optical Cable. It is not designed to be extended or spliced. For longer distances, Arista offers additional AOC lengths or standalone QSFP28 transceivers paired with structured fibre cabling.

Q: How does an Active Optical Cable differ from a DAC (Direct Attach Copper) cable?
A: An AOC uses laser-driven optical fibre internally, allowing it to span greater distances (typically up to 100m for 100G) with lower signal degradation and electromagnetic interference compared to copper DAC cables. DAC cables are typically limited to 1–7 metres and are heavier and less flexible. AOCs like this 7m cable offer the reach benefits of fibre with the convenience of a direct-attach, hot-pluggable module.

Q: Does this cable support Digital Diagnostic Monitoring?
A: Yes. The AOC-Q-Q-100G-7M features built-in Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) via a 2-wire I2C interface, allowing network management systems to monitor real-time optical parameters such as temperature, voltage, and signal strength for proactive fault detection.

Q: Can I purchase this cable in Australia from IP Trading?
A: Yes. IP Trading (iptrading.com.au) is an Australian-owned and operated IT hardware reseller, trading since 2001. The AOC-Q-Q-100G-7M can be ordered directly from our website with local support and competitive pricing for Australian businesses.

Q: Is this cable suitable for high-performance computing (HPC) environments?
A: Absolutely. The AOC-Q-Q-100G-7M is designed for high-bandwidth, low-latency interconnects in data centre, enterprise core/distribution, and HPC cluster environments. Its 100 Gbps throughput, low power consumption, and compact QSFP28 form factor make it ideal for high-density compute and storage interconnect applications.
