HP or HPE? And how to choose the right HP dock

HP and HPE are different companies. HP Inc. makes PCs, monitors, docks and printers. Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) makes servers, storage and networking. They split in 2015, so a server part will be listed under HPE, not HP.

Choosing an HP dock. HP docks are named by type and generation, such as G4 or G5, where a higher number is a newer model.

  • USB-C docks: suit most modern HP laptops for one cable desks with monitors, Ethernet and charging
  • Thunderbolt docks: more bandwidth for several high resolution monitors and fast devices
  • Travel hubs: small adapters for staff who move between sites

Check the dock's charging power covers your laptop, and that the laptop's USB-C port supports video.

Mounting accessories. HP quick release brackets and VESA plates mount mini PCs and all in ones behind monitors or on walls, which frees up desk space.

Plan the desk. Pair laptops with docks and monitors, and keep the same dock model across the fleet to simplify support.
