Description

The SP-CABLE-ADASFP+-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Fortinet SP-CABLE-ADASFP+. This active direct attach copper twinax cable provides plug-and-play compatibility with Fortinet switches, routers, and firewalls equipped with SFP+ ports. - Compliant with 10GBase-CR, SFF-8431, and SFF-8432 standards, ensuring interoperability with Fortinet networking platforms - SFP+ to SFP+ form factor supporting data rates from 1 Gbps to 10.5 Gbps over active twinax copper - 10m cable length ideal for intra-rack and rack-to-rack connectivity in data center environments - Active copper design with Clock and Data Recovery (CDR) technology enables longer reach than passive DAC cables - Digital diagnostic monitoring (DDM) support for real-time cable performance visibility - Hot-swappable design with low power consumption under 0.5W per cable assembly

Features

• 10GBase-CR compliance guarantees interoperability with Fortinet SFP+ ports and other MSA-compliant 10 Gigabit Ethernet equipment using copper media
• Active signal conditioning with integrated Clock and Data Recovery (CDR) extends reach beyond passive copper limits while maintaining signal integrity at 10 Gbps line rates
• SFF-8431 and SFF-8432 MSA compliance ensures mechanical fit, electrical compatibility, and standard I2C memory map access for vendor-agnostic deployment
• Low power dissipation under 0.5W per cable assembly reduces thermal load in high-density switch environments compared to optical alternatives
• Digital diagnostic monitoring interface provides access to cable assembly temperature and other operational parameters for proactive link management
• Hot-swappable transceivers at both ends allow field replacement and in-service installation without disrupting adjacent links or requiring chassis power-down

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Fortinet SP-CABLE-ADASFP+?
A: Yes. This cable is fully compatible with the SP-CABLE-ADASFP+ specification. It conforms to the 10GBase-CR standard and SFP+ MSA form factor with active twinax copper at 10m length. The cable is plug-and-play ready for Fortinet platforms.

Q: Which Fortinet platforms support this cable?
A: This cable works with Fortinet switches, routers, and firewall appliances equipped with SFP+ or SFP/SFP+ combo ports supporting 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Any Fortinet platform with 10GBase-CR DAC support will accept this cable.

Q: What is the difference between active and passive twinax cables?
A: Active DAC cables include signal conditioning circuitry with Clock and Data Recovery (CDR) in the transceiver assemblies, enabling longer reach and improved signal integrity. Passive cables rely on the host equipment for signal processing and are limited to shorter distances, typically under 5 meters at 10 Gbps.

Q: Can I read cable diagnostics through DDM?
A: Yes. The cable supports digital diagnostic monitoring via the I2C interface. You can access temperature and other operational parameters from the transceiver assemblies, though the parameter set is more limited than optical transceivers since copper cables do not measure optical power or wavelength.

Q: What is the minimum bend radius for installation?
A: The minimum bend radius is 25mm. Exceeding this bend limit can damage the twinax cable conductors or strain the transceiver solder joints, leading to intermittent connectivity or permanent failure. Plan cable routing with adequate clearance in high-density rack installations.
