Description

The R0M46A-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Aruba R0M46A. This passive direct attach copper cable supports 50 Gbps data transmission between SFP56 ports and is fully plug-and-play with Aruba 6300, 6400, and 8360 series switches. - Compliant with IEEE 802.3cd and SFF-8432 standards, ensuring interoperability with SFP56-enabled devices - 50 Gbps passive twinax copper cable with SFP56 connectors on both ends - Commercial operating temperature range: 0 to 70 degrees Celsius - Low latency and minimal power consumption compared to active optical solutions - Available in 0.65 meter and 3 meter lengths for intra-rack and adjacent rack connections - Compatible with Aruba 6300F, 6300M, 6405, 6410 switch series and CX 8360 switch platforms

Features

• IEEE 802.3cd compliance guarantees 50GBASE-CR Ethernet operation over passive copper twinax without requiring additional FEC configuration on most platforms
• SFF-8432 MSA compliance ensures mechanical and electrical compatibility with all SFP56 host ports regardless of vendor
• Passive copper construction eliminates active circuitry, reducing power draw to under 0.5W per cable and minimizing heat generation in high-density environments
• Commercial temperature rating (0 to 70 degrees Celsius) covers standard data center and telecommunications equipment room operating conditions
• Hot-swappable design with integrated EEPROM allows live insertion and removal without disrupting adjacent ports or requiring host system restart
• Twinax copper design delivers sub-microsecond latency suitable for spine-leaf topologies, storage area networks, and latency-sensitive application traffic
• Single 3.3V supply voltage drawn from the host SFP56 port simplifies power planning and eliminates external power requirements

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Aruba R0M46A?
A: Yes. The R0M46A-BCC operates at 50 Gbps over passive copper with SFP56 connectors and is compliant with IEEE 802.3cd and SFF-8432, matching the functional specification of the Aruba R0M46A. It is plug-and-play compatible with Aruba SFP56 ports.

Q: Which Aruba switches support this cable?
A: This cable is compatible with Aruba 6300F, 6300M, 6405 series (including 6405 48SFP+ 8SFP56 and 6405 96G CL4 PoE 4SFP56 models), 6410 series, and CX 8360 series switches (8360-12C, 8360-16Y2C, 8360-24XF2C, 8360-32Y4C, 8360-48XT4C and their V2 variants). Any Aruba platform with SFP56 ports supporting 50GBASE-CR will recognize this cable.

Q: What is the maximum reach and does it require FEC?
A: Both the 0.65 meter and 3 meter lengths operate at 50 Gbps over passive copper twinax. IEEE 802.3cd passive copper DAC specifications typically support up to 3 meters without FEC, though some vendor platforms may require or benefit from RS-FEC (KP1-FEC) enabled on host ports for optimal bit error rate performance at longer lengths or higher temperatures.

Q: Can I mix different cable lengths in the same switch stack or leaf-spine topology?
A: Yes. Both the 0.65m and 3m variants operate at the same 50 Gbps electrical signaling rate and comply with the same SFF-8432 and IEEE 802.3cd standards. You can use the 0.65m length for same-rack top-of-rack to server connections and the 3m length for adjacent-rack interconnects without timing or performance issues, provided the host platform supports the chosen length.

Q: Does this passive DAC cable support any diagnostic monitoring capabilities?
A: Passive copper DAC cables do not implement the full Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) feature set found in optical transceivers. Each SFP56 connector contains an EEPROM storing vendor identification, part number, serial number, and compliance codes that the host system can read via I2C, but real-time optical power, temperature, voltage, and bias current monitoring are not applicable to passive copper electrical transmission.
