Description

The SFP-H25G-CUxM-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Cisco SFP-H25G-CU1M and family. This passive copper direct-attach cable assembly plugs into any SFP28 port on Cisco switches and networking equipment supporting 25GBASE-CR1. - IEEE 802.3by compliance guarantees interoperability with standards-compliant 25 Gigabit Ethernet infrastructure - SFP28 to SFP28 passive twinaxial copper construction, available in lengths from 1 to 5 meters - Supports 25 Gbps data rates over passive copper with no external power required - Low-latency, cost-effective alternative to optical transceivers for short-reach connections within racks and across adjacent racks - FEC requirements vary by length: 1m, 1.5m, 2m cables operate without FEC; 2.5m and 3m require BASE-R FEC; 4m and 5m require RS-FEC on host ports - Hot-swappable design with MSA SFF-8402 compliant connectors

Features

• IEEE 802.3by 25GBASE-CR1 standard compliance ensures seamless interoperability with any compliant 25 Gigabit Ethernet switch, router, or server NIC equipped with SFP28 ports
• Passive twinaxial copper architecture eliminates active electronics, delivering zero signal latency and consuming no port power budget beyond the SFP28 interface itself
• MSA SFF-8402 and SFF-8432 compliant connectors guarantee mechanical fit and electrical compatibility across multi-vendor SFP28 ecosystems
• Length-dependent FEC support: shorter cables (1m to 2m) achieve full 25 Gbps link rates without forward error correction, while 2.5m and 3m lengths require BASE-R FEC and 4m to 5m lengths require RS-FEC to maintain signal integrity
• Hot-swappable design allows installation and removal without disrupting adjacent ports or powering down host equipment
• 30 AWG twinax construction balances flexibility for tight rack routing with sufficient signal integrity for passive transmission across the full length range
• Operating temperature range of 0°C to 70°C suits standard data centre and telecom equipment room environments

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Cisco SFP-H25G-CU1M?
A: Yes. The SFP-H25G-CUxM-BCC is a direct replacement for the Cisco SFP-H25G-CU1M and the entire SFP-H25G-CUxM family. It delivers the same 25 Gbps data rate over passive copper using the same SFP28 form factor and IEEE 802.3by 25GBASE-CR1 standard. The cable is plug-and-play compatible with Cisco switches and routers equipped with SFP28 ports.

Q: Which Cisco platforms support this cable?
A: This cable works in any Cisco platform with SFP28 ports that support 25GBASE-CR1. The official Cisco datasheet confirms compatibility with Catalyst 9500 series switches and Nexus 9000 series switches with 25G SFP28 interfaces. Any Cisco device with standards-compliant SFP28 ports will accept this cable.

Q: Why do longer cables require FEC on the host ports?
A: Signal attenuation increases with cable length in passive copper. Cables 1m to 2m maintain sufficient signal-to-noise ratio for error-free 25 Gbps transmission without forward error correction. At 2.5m and 3m, BASE-R FEC (also called FC-FEC) compensates for increased loss. The 4m and 5m lengths require the stronger RS-FEC algorithm to recover bits reliably. The host switch or NIC must enable the appropriate FEC mode for the cable length in use.

Q: Can I use this cable for 10 Gigabit Ethernet instead of 25 Gbps?
A: Yes. SFP28 ports are backwards compatible with 10GBASE-CR SFP+ signalling. If both ends negotiate 10 Gbps, this cable will carry the link without issue. At 10 Gbps data rates, FEC is not required regardless of cable length, giving you flexibility to use any length from 1m to 5m without host port FEC configuration.

Q: Does this cable support DOM or DDM for diagnostic monitoring?
A: Yes. Each SFP28 connector incorporates an EEPROM that provides Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM, also called DOM) via the I2C interface. You can read module temperature, supply voltage, and vendor identification data through standard management tools on the host switch or server. This allows proactive monitoring of cable health and environmental conditions without disrupting the data path.
