A: The module requires G.652 standard single-mode fibre to achieve the specified 80km reach. Actual link distance depends on fibre quality, patch panel insertion loss, and connector condition. For links shorter than 40km, an inline optical attenuator may be required to prevent receiver overload.

Q: Can I monitor optical power and temperature in real time?
A: Yes. The module supports digital diagnostics monitoring per SFF-8472, exposing real-time parameters including temperature, supply voltage, TX bias current, TX optical power, and RX optical power. Access these via your switch CLI or management interface if DDM is supported by your platform.

Q: What is the power consumption and does it require special cooling?
A: Maximum power consumption is 1.8W. The module uses a cooled EML laser, but the cooling is integrated within the transceiver itself. No additional host cooling beyond standard SFP+ airflow is required. The module operates from 0 to 70 degrees Celsius.
