A: No external FEC is required for 10GBASE-SR over multimode fibre within the specified reach limits. The transceiver integrates clock and data recovery at the receiver and does not rely on host-side RS-FEC or BASE-R FEC. For OTU2/2e operation, the host must support the appropriate framing and FEC modes per ITU-T G.709.
