The SFP-10G-BXU-I-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Cisco SFP-10G-BXU-I. This upstream BiDi transceiver operates plug-and-play in Cisco switches and routers with SFP+ ports supporting 10GBASE-BX. • Integrated WDM diplexer simultaneously couples the 1270nm transmit wavelength onto the fibre while splitting off the 1330nm receive wavelength to the detector, enabling full-duplex operation over one strand.
• Must be deployed with a complementary downstream module (SFP-10G-BXD-I or equivalent) transmitting at 1330nm and receiving at 1270nm. Upstream-to-upstream pairing will not establish a link.

Q: Why are there upstream and downstream versions, and what happens if I use two upstream modules?
A: BiDi modules transmit and receive on different wavelengths over a single fibre. The upstream module (SFP-10G-BXU-I) transmits at 1270nm and receives at 1330nm. The downstream module (SFP-10G-BXD-I) does the reverse: transmit 1330nm, receive 1270nm. Connecting two upstream modules will not work because both ends would be transmitting on 1270nm and listening on 1330nm. You must deploy complementary pairs.

Q: What fibre type and quality do I need to reach 10km?
A: This module requires single-mode fibre meeting G.652 or OS2 specifications. Maximum reach depends on total link budget, including fibre attenuation (typically 0.35 dB/km at 1310nm), splice or connector loss, and any additional margin for aging. A clean, well-terminated OS2 link under 10km with simplex LC connectors will typically achieve full performance. Poor quality connectors or dirty end faces will reduce margin and may prevent link establishment.

Q: Does this module support forward error correction (FEC) or require specific NOS features?
A: 10GBASE-BX10 does not mandate FEC at the physical layer. The module operates at the native 10.3125 Gbps line rate with 8b/10b encoding. Host-side FEC (such as Firecode or RS-FEC) is not typically required or applied at 10G SFP+ speeds. The module is transparent to the network operating system and will interoperate with any NOS (IOS, IOS-XE, NX-OS, IOS-XR) that recognizes the 10GBASE-BX optic type.
