Description

The SFP-10G-BX40D-I-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Cisco SFP-10G-BX40D-I. This bidirectional SFP+ transceiver operates plug-and-play in Cisco SFP+ ports, enabling 10 Gigabit Ethernet over a single strand of single-mode fibre. - 10GBASE-BX40-D standard compliance guarantees interoperability with matching upstream BiDi transceivers - SFP+ form factor supporting 10.3125 Gbps data rate over OS2 single-mode fibre up to 40km - Transmits at 1330nm and receives at 1270nm via simplex LC connector - Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) support per SFF-8472 MSA for real-time diagnostics of optical power, temperature, and bias current - Hot-swappable design allows installation and removal without powering down the host switch or router - Must be deployed in pairs with a complementary upstream transceiver (1270nm TX / 1330nm RX) such as the SFP-10G-BX40U-I

Features

• IEEE 802.3ae compliance guarantees electrical and optical interoperability with 10GBASE-BX40-D infrastructure and ensures link establishment with standards-compliant upstream BiDi partners
• Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology transmits and receives on different wavelengths (1330nm / 1270nm) over a single fibre strand, reducing fibre infrastructure cost by 50 percent compared to duplex optics
• DFB laser transmitter and PIN photodiode receiver integrated into a single simplex LC interface, eliminating the need for separate TX and RX fibre pairs
• SFF-8472 digital diagnostic interface provides access to real-time optical output power, optical input power, module temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage for proactive link monitoring
• Hot-pluggable into any standards-compliant SFP+ cage without disrupting adjacent ports or requiring chassis power-down
• Directional pairing requirement means this downstream module (1330nm TX) must connect to an upstream module (1270nm TX) to establish a functional bidirectional link
• Commercial temperature range (0 to 70°C) suits standard data centre and enterprise wiring closet environments

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the SFP-10G-BX40D-I?
A: Yes. The SFP-10G-BX40D-I-BCC is designed to match the SFP-10G-BX40D-I specification exactly, with identical form factor, data rate, wavelengths, and 10GBASE-BX40-D standard compliance. It operates plug-and-play in Cisco SFP+ ports.

Q: Which Cisco platforms support this transceiver?
A: This module works in any Cisco switch, router, or network device with a standards-compliant 10G SFP+ port supporting 10GBASE-BX BiDi operation. If your platform accepts the SFP-10G-BX40D-I, this module will function identically.

Q: Why do the transmit and receive wavelengths differ, and how does pairing work?
A: This is a downstream BiDi module: it transmits at 1330nm and receives at 1270nm. It must be paired with an upstream module (such as SFP-10G-BX40U-I compatible) that transmits at 1270nm and receives at 1330nm. The opposing wavelengths allow full-duplex communication over one fibre strand using WDM technology. Two downstream modules cannot communicate with each other.

Q: What fibre type and condition are required to achieve 40km reach?
A: The module requires OS2 single-mode fibre (G.652 standard). Actual reach depends on fibre quality, splice loss, connector cleanliness, and total link budget. The module provides sufficient optical budget (typically 16 dB) for 40km under standard conditions, but degraded fibre or dirty connectors will reduce maximum distance.

Q: Can I monitor link health and optical power in real time?
A: Yes. The module supports SFF-8472 Digital Optical Monitoring, which exposes optical TX power, RX power, module temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage via the I2C interface. Most modern Cisco NOS versions can display these parameters using show interface transceiver commands, enabling proactive identification of marginal links or failing optics.
