If the port accepts a Cisco SFP-10G-AOC cable, it will accept this one.

A: The cable length is fixed by the variant you select (1M, 2M, 3M, 5M, 7M, or 10M). The fibre is factory-integrated and optimised for 850nm VCSEL transmission, so you do not specify OM3 or OM4. The active design maintains signal integrity across the stated length without external patch cables or cleaning.

Q: Can I monitor link health and optical power levels on this cable?
A: Yes. Each end of the cable supports DDM via the SFF-8472 interface, exposing temperature, supply voltage, laser bias current, transmit optical power, and receive optical power. You can read these parameters through the host CLI using commands like show interface transceiver or via SNMP for threshold alarming and trending.

Q: How does the power budget and thermal profile compare to passive copper DAC?
A: Each SFP+ connector draws approximately 0.8W, so a complete cable consumes around 1.6W total. Passive copper DAC draws near zero power but suffers from signal loss and crosstalk beyond 3 to 5 metres. The active optical design trades modest power for clean 10G signalling at 10M, immunity to electromagnetic interference, and a lighter, more flexible cable that simplifies dense-rack routing.
