This QSFP+ module provides plug-and-play 40 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity in Dell networking platforms using multimode fibre infrastructure. - IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-SR4 compliance ensures interoperability with all standard 40GBASE-SR4 interfaces across vendors - QSFP+ form factor with MPO/MTP connector, 850nm wavelength VCSEL array, 40Gbps aggregate data rate over 4 independent 10Gbps channels - Supports 100m reach over OM3 fibre and 150m over OM4 fibre with 1.9dB optical power budget - Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) provides real-time access to temperature, laser bias current, transmit and receive optical power, and supply voltage - Hot-swappable design enables installation and replacement without network downtime - Available as Dell part numbers QSFP-40GSR4 and 407-BBOZ variants - Optional 4x10G breakout mode using MPO to duplex LC breakout cable for connectivity to four independent 10GBASE-SR interfaces

Q: Will this work in place of the Dell QSFP-40GSR4 or 407-BBOZ?
A: Yes. This module is designed to the same IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-SR4 and QSFP+ MSA SFF-8436 specifications as the Dell originals and provides identical QSFP+ form factor, 40Gbps data rate, 850nm wavelength, and MPO connector interface. It offers plug-and-play compatibility in Dell N4032, N4032F, N4064, N4064F, and other platforms with QSFP+ 40GbE ports.

Q: Which Dell platforms support this transceiver?
A: This module is confirmed compatible with Dell Networking N4032, N4032F, N4064, and N4064F switches. It will function in any Dell platform with a QSFP+ port that lists QSFP-40GSR4 or 407-BBOZ as supported, provided the port is configured for 40GBASE-SR4 operation.

Q: What is the difference in reach between OM3 and OM4 fibre?
A: This transceiver supports 100m over OM3 fibre and 150m over OM4 fibre due to the lower modal dispersion and attenuation characteristics of OM4. Both distances assume a 1.9dB maximum channel insertion loss. Actual reach depends on fibre quality, connector cleanliness, number of mated pairs, and any splices in the link.

Q: Can I use this module in 4x10G breakout mode?
A: Yes. When paired with an MPO-to-4xLC breakout cable (12-fibre to 4 duplex LC), each of the four 10Gbps lanes can connect to an independent 10GBASE-SR SFP+ interface. The host switch must support 40G-to-4x10G breakout configuration on the QSFP+ port. Each 10G lane will support 100m over OM3 or 150m over OM4 using standard duplex LC patchcords.

Q: Does this module require Forward Error Correction (FEC) to be enabled on the host switch?
A: No. The IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-SR4 standard does not mandate FEC for short-reach multimode links, and this transceiver is designed to meet bit error rate specifications without it. FEC may be enabled on the host port for additional margin, but it is not required for proper operation over the specified 100m OM3 or 150m OM4 distances.
