Description

The QSFP-40/100-SRBD-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Cisco QSFP-40/100-SRBD. This dual-rate QSFP28 BiDi transceiver operates plug-and-play in Cisco platforms supporting 40G or 100G Ethernet over duplex multimode fibre with standard LC connectors. - Compliant with 40GBASE-SR-BD and 100GBASE-SR-BD standards, guaranteeing interoperability with any conforming interface at the same speed - QSFP28 form factor supporting dual-rate operation: 40G mode (100m OM3, 150m OM4) or 100G mode (70m OM3, 100m OM4) - BiDi optical interface using two wavelengths (850nm and 900nm) over duplex LC multimode fibre, enabling migration from 10G infrastructure to 40G or 100G without replacing cabling - Integrated FEC and onboard gearbox converting four 25G electrical lanes to two 50G optical channels in 100G mode, or two 20G channels in 40G mode - IEEE 802.3bm CAUI-4 electrical interface with digital diagnostics (DOM) available via I2C for real-time monitoring of optical power, temperature, voltage, and bias current - Hot-swappable with duplex LC connector supporting link lengths up to 150m on OM4 fibre in 40G mode

Features

• IEEE 802.3bm CAUI-4 electrical interface guarantees host compatibility across any platform supporting the four-lane 25Gbps standard without requiring host-side FEC
• BiDi architecture uses passive WDM filters to isolate transmit and receive channels on separate wavelengths (850nm / 900nm), enabling full-duplex communication over just two fibres instead of eight
• Dual-rate capability supports 40G operation (2 x 20Gbps NRZ per fibre) or 100G operation (2 x 50Gbps PAM4 per fibre) on the same hardware
• Onboard FEC integrated into the optical link minimizes bit error rates and ensures reliable operation without requiring host platform FEC configuration
• 1.9 dB optical link budget in 100G mode supports distances up to 100m on OM4 fibre, subject to connector and fibre quality
• Hot-swappable installation with duplex LC connectors allows deployment or replacement without powering down the host platform
• QSFP28 MSA compliant form factor provides backward physical compatibility with QSFP+ cages while supporting higher speeds and dual-rate operation

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Cisco QSFP-40/100-SRBD?
A: Yes. This transceiver is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Cisco QSFP-40/100-SRBD. It conforms to the same 40GBASE-SR-BD and 100GBASE-SR-BD standards, uses the QSFP28 form factor, and operates plug-and-play over the same CAUI-4 electrical interface and duplex LC multimode fibre physical layer.

Q: Which Cisco platforms support this transceiver?
A: This transceiver works in any Cisco platform with QSFP28 or QSFP+ ports that support 40GBASE-SR-BD or 100GBASE-SR-BD interfaces and the CAUI-4 electrical standard. The port must be configured for the desired data rate (40G or 100G) and the platform must support BiDi optics over duplex LC multimode fibre.

Q: How does the BiDi wavelength pairing work, and can I mix transceivers from different batches?
A: Each transceiver transmits on one wavelength (either 850nm or 900nm) and receives on the other. The passive WDM filters inside the module separate Tx and Rx optically. As long as both ends of the link are QSFP-40/100-SRBD transceivers (or compatible BiDi modules using the same wavelength plan), they will interoperate regardless of vendor or batch, because the standard defines the wavelength pairing.

Q: Does the host platform need to enable FEC for this transceiver to work?
A: No. This transceiver has integrated FEC within the optical link itself, which operates independently of the host. The CAUI-4 electrical interface should be configured with host FEC turned off to avoid interference with the captive FEC inside the transceiver. The onboard FEC is what enables reliable 100G operation over the 1.9 dB link budget.

Q: Can I use OM3 fibre for 100G links, or is OM4 required?
A: You can use OM3 for 100G links up to 70 metres. OM4 extends the reach to 100 metres in 100G mode due to its higher modal bandwidth (4700 MHz·km vs 2000 MHz·km at 850nm). In 40G mode, OM3 supports 100m and OM4 supports 150m. If your links are under 70m, OM3 is sufficient for both data rates.
