Q: What are the four LAN-WDM wavelengths and why does this matter?
A: This module transmits on four distinct wavelengths defined by IEEE 802.3ba: 1295.56nm, 1300.05nm, 1304.58nm, and 1309.14nm. These wavelengths are multiplexed into a single duplex fibre pair, allowing 100Gbps transmission over just two fibres instead of eight. The integrated MUX/DEMUX manages wavelength separation, so you connect it like any duplex transceiver. This approach is what enables the 10km reach.

Q: Does this transceiver require FEC to reach 10km?
A: No. IEEE 100GBASE-LR4 does not employ FEC. This module delivers the full 10km reach over G.652 single-mode fibre without requiring Forward Error Correction on the host platform. If your switch supports FEC and has it enabled, the module will still operate, but FEC is not necessary to achieve the 10km specification.

Q: Can I use this with OM3 or OM4 multimode fibre?
A: No. This is a single-mode transceiver designed exclusively for OS2/G.652 single-mode fibre. The LAN-WDM wavelengths at 1295-1310nm and the receiver sensitivity are optimised for single-mode transmission. Attempting to use multimode fibre will result in no link or severely degraded performance. For multimode applications, use a 100GBASE-SR4 transceiver instead.
