Description

The QSFP-100G-DR-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Juniper QSFP-100G-DR. This transceiver provides plug-and-play 100G connectivity in Juniper switches and routers with QSFP28 ports supporting 100GBASE-DR applications. - IEEE 802.3cd 100GBASE-DR compliance ensures interoperability with any standards-compliant 100G DR port - QSFP28 form factor, 100G data rate over single-mode fibre, 1310nm wavelength, up to 500m reach via duplex LC connector - Single lambda PAM4 modulation with onboard gearbox converting 4x25G NRZ electrical signals to 1x100G PAM4 optical signal - Digital diagnostic monitoring (DOM) support for real-time access to optical power, temperature, bias current, and voltage parameters - Media-side RS-FEC (544,514) enabled for reliable PAM4 transmission, host-side CAUI-4 electrical interface - Operating temperature range 0 to 70°C, maximum power consumption 4.5W, hot-swappable design

Features

• IEEE 802.3cd 100GBASE-DR compliance guarantees interoperability with any vendor's 100G DR port implementing the same standard, including breakout compatibility with 400GBASE-DR4 ports
• PAM4 modulation at 53.125 GBd on a single wavelength simplifies cabling to two fibres instead of eight required by parallel optics like SR4 or PSM4, reducing fibre count and patch panel density
• Onboard DSP-based gearbox with integrated retimer and FEC block converts 4x25G NRZ host signals to 1x100G PAM4 optical signal, ensuring signal integrity at extended reach
• Media-side RS (544,514) FEC corrects pre-FEC bit error ratios and is required for reliable PAM4 operation; host-side CAUI-4 interface operates without FEC
• EML transmitter with cooled laser and PIN photodiode receiver deliver 3 dB minimum link budget, sufficient for 500m over standard G.652 single-mode fibre under typical attenuation conditions
• Hot-swappable QSFP28 MSA form factor with duplex LC/UPC connectors supports field replacement without powering down the host platform
• DOM via I2C interface provides real-time monitoring of transmit/receive optical power, module temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage for proactive link health management

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Juniper QSFP-100G-DR?
A: Yes. The QSFP-100G-DR-BCC is designed as a direct replacement for the Juniper QSFP-100G-DR. It shares the same QSFP28 form factor, 100GBASE-DR data rate, 1310nm wavelength, and 500m single-mode reach. The transceiver is plug-and-play compatible and complies with IEEE 802.3cd and QSFP28 MSA standards, ensuring it will initialize and operate identically in Juniper platforms that specify the QSFP-100G-DR.

Q: Which Juniper platforms support this transceiver?
A: This transceiver works in Juniper switches and routers with QSFP28 ports supporting 100GBASE-DR, including QFX-Series data centre switches, EX-Series Ethernet switches, MX-Series universal routing platforms, and PTX-Series packet transport routers. Confirm your specific platform supports 100GBASE-DR optics by checking the Juniper Hardware Compatibility Tool or platform documentation for QSFP28 port specifications.

Q: What fibre type and quality is required for 500m reach?
A: This transceiver requires OS2 single-mode fibre (G.652 compliant, 9/125 µm core/cladding). The 500m reach assumes a 3 dB minimum link budget and typical fibre attenuation of approximately 0.35-0.4 dB/km at 1310nm. Actual reach depends on fibre quality, splice/connector losses, and link conditions. Higher-quality fibre or lower insertion loss may extend reach; degraded fibre or multiple splices may reduce it.

Q: Does this transceiver require FEC to be enabled on the host platform?
A: Media-side RS (544,514) FEC is enabled internally within the transceiver to correct errors in the PAM4 optical signal and is always active. The host-side CAUI-4 electrical interface operates without FEC. You do not need to configure FEC on the host platform; the transceiver handles error correction autonomously between the electrical and optical domains.

Q: Can this transceiver interoperate with 400G DR4 ports using breakout cables?
A: Yes. This 100GBASE-DR transceiver can interoperate with a 400GBASE-DR4 QSFP-DD or OSFP port configured for 4x100G breakout, where each of the four 100G lanes uses the same 100GBASE-DR signaling. Use a breakout cable (MPO-12 to 4x duplex LC) to connect one 100G lane from the 400G port to this transceiver. Confirm your host platform supports 400G-to-100G DR breakout mode.
