The PAN-QSFP-AOC-xM-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Palo Alto PAN-QSFP-AOC-3M. Q: Will this work in place of the Palo Alto PAN-QSFP-AOC-3M?
A: Yes. The PAN-QSFP-AOC-xM-BCC is designed to the same 40GBASE-AOC standard, QSFP+ form factor, and 40Gb/s data rate as the Palo Alto original. It will plug and play in any Palo Alto appliance that specifies the PAN-QSFP-AOC-3M, including PA-5200 and PA-7000 Series firewalls with QSFP+ ports.

Q: Which Palo Alto firewall and appliance models support this cable?
A: This cable is compatible with Palo Alto PA-5200 Series and PA-7000 Series platforms, as well as any Palo Alto device with QSFP+ ports that support 40GBASE-AOC or 40GbE connectivity. Verify your appliance has QSFP+ cages and supports 40Gb Ethernet or InfiniBand QDR on the relevant ports.

Q: What is the maximum transmission distance for each cable length?
A: The maximum transmission distance is the physical cable length itself. The 3M cable reaches 3 metres, and the 10M cable reaches 10 metres. Unlike transceiver modules with separate fibre patch cables, AOC cables have integrated fibre between the connectors, so the rated length is the installed reach.

Q: Does this cable support Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DDM) for link health visibility?
A: Yes. The cable supports DDM per the QSFP+ MSA specification, allowing the host system to query temperature, voltage, and per-lane optical power parameters via the I2C management interface. This enables proactive monitoring of link health and cable condition through your firewall or switch management software.

Q: Can I mix 3M and 10M cables between two devices, or must both ends be the same length?
A: The cable is a single fixed-length assembly with integrated QSFP+ connectors on both ends. You cannot mix lengths because the cable is manufactured as one continuous piece. Select the length that matches your physical rack or chassis spacing requirement. Both the 3M and 10M variants operate identically at 40Gb/s.
