Description

The Opengear EMD5000-01 Environmental Monitoring Device connects directly to the serial ports of compatible Opengear console servers (X1 pinout), enabling remote monitoring of temperature, humidity, and up to two external dry contact sensors — all accessible via a standard web browser. Designed for data centre and server room deployments, it automatically triggers progressive alarms via Email, SMS, SNMP traps, and Nagios when configurable warning or critical thresholds are breached, helping IT teams respond before environmental conditions cause equipment damage.

The EMD5000-01 supports user-defined thresholds for temperature (0°C–80°C), humidity (10%–90% RH), and contact closure events, and maintains time-stamped audit logs locally and remotely. Compatible external sensors include smoke detectors, water leak detectors, vibration sensors, and door open/close sensors. Multiple EMD units can be attached to a single console server, and the device requires no external power — drawing power directly from the serial port via CAT5 cable. Compatible with Opengear IM7200, IM4200, CM7100, ACM5500, and ACM5000 console server models. Need it fast? iptrading.com.au delivers across Australia — shop now.

FAQs

Q: Which Opengear console servers are compatible with the EMD5000-01?
A: The EMD5000-01 is compatible with Opengear console servers using the X1 pinout, including the IM7200, IM4200, CM7100, ACM5500, and ACM5000 series. Always verify your console server's pinout type before ordering — X1 pinout units require the EMD5000-01, while other pinout variants use different EMD models.

Q: What types of external sensors can be connected to the EMD5000-01?
A: The EMD5000-01 supports up to two dry contact sensors via its digital input ports. Compatible sensor types include smoke detectors, water/flood leak detectors, vibration sensors, and door open/close sensors — ideal for comprehensive data centre or server room environmental monitoring.

Q: How does the EMD5000-01 send alerts when a threshold is breached?
A: When a configured temperature, humidity, or contact closure threshold is exceeded, the EMD5000-01 automatically sends progressive alarms via Email, SMS, SNMP traps, and Nagios notifications. Thresholds for both warning and critical levels are user-configurable through the Opengear console server web interface.

Q: Does the EMD5000-01 require an external power supply?
A: No. The EMD5000-01 is powered entirely through the Opengear console server's serial port via a CAT5 cable — no separate power adapter or outlet is required. This simplifies installation and reduces cabling in the rack.

Q: Can multiple EMD5000-01 devices be used on a single console server?
A: Yes. Multiple EMD5000-01 units can be attached to different serial ports on a single compatible Opengear console server, allowing monitoring of multiple zones or rack locations within the same management interface.

Q: Can I purchase the Opengear EMD5000-01 in Australia through IP Trading?
A: Yes. The EMD5000-01 is available through iptrading.com.au with delivery across Australia. IP Trading is a specialist B2B IT hardware reseller stocking Opengear products for data centre, enterprise, and government deployments. Contact the team for volume pricing or fast-track availability.
