Description

The MA-CBL-40G-xM-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Meraki MA-CBL-40G-50CM. This passive copper direct attach cable provides plug-and-play connectivity for Meraki MS-series switches requiring 40G stacking or interconnect. - 40GBASE-CR4 and SFF-8436 compliance guarantees interoperability with standards-compliant 40G QSFP+ ports - QSFP+ to QSFP+ passive twinax copper cable assembly delivering 40Gbps data rate over copper - Suitable for short-range interconnects within and across adjacent equipment racks - Available in three lengths: 0.5M, 1M, and 3M to accommodate varied rack configurations - Hot-pluggable design with low power consumption compared to optical alternatives - Compatible with Meraki MS210, MS225, MS250, MS350, MS410, and MS425 switch families for stacking applications

Features

• 40GBASE-CR4 signaling over four independent copper lanes delivers full 40Gbps throughput with proven passive twinax technology requiring no external power beyond port supply
• SFF-8436 QSFP+ MSA form factor ensures mechanical and electrical compatibility across multi-vendor environments, simplifying deployment in mixed infrastructure
• Passive copper architecture eliminates active components, reducing per-port power draw and heat generation compared to optical transceivers while maintaining signal integrity for short reaches
• Hot-swap capability allows insertion and removal without powering down host devices, supporting maintenance windows and dynamic topology changes without service interruption
• Three-length family (0.5M, 1M, 3M) provides deployment flexibility for top-of-rack, middle-of-row, and cross-rack connections without excess cable management burden
• Twinax copper construction delivers low latency and immunity to electromagnetic interference within rated distance, ideal for deterministic stacking and aggregation links
• Direct attach assembly integrates connectors permanently to cable, eliminating transceiver inventory complexity and reducing failure points in high-density switch stacks

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Meraki MA-CBL-40G-50CM?
A: Yes. This cable is a direct replacement for the MA-CBL-40G-50CM. It uses the same QSFP+ form factor, 40GBASE-CR4 signaling, and passive twinax construction as the original. The cable is plug-and-play compatible with Meraki switches and will function identically in stacking and interconnect applications.

Q: Which Meraki switches support this cable?
A: This cable is compatible with Meraki MS210, MS225, MS250, MS350, MS410, and MS425 series switches. These platforms support 40G QSFP+ ports for stacking or uplink applications. Ensure your switch model includes QSFP+ stacking ports before deployment.

Q: Can I mix cable lengths in the same stack?
A: Yes. Passive copper DAC cables do not introduce length-dependent timing issues within the supported range. You can use 0.5M, 1M, and 3M cables in the same stack topology without affecting performance, allowing you to match cable length to physical rack spacing without protocol constraints.

Q: What is the maximum reach for passive copper at 40G?
A: Passive twinax copper cables are suitable for reaches up to 3 meters at 40Gbps. Beyond this distance, signal attenuation and crosstalk degrade link quality. For longer runs between racks or floors, consider 40G QSFP+ optical transceivers with fibre instead of passive copper DAC.

Q: Does this cable support breakout to 4x10G?
A: No. This is a QSFP+ to QSFP+ cable designed for native 40G operation using 40GBASE-CR4. It cannot be used as a breakout cable to create four separate 10G links. Breakout applications require a QSFP+ to 4xSFP+ fanout cable or splitter module with appropriate lane mapping.
