Description

The Juniper QSFP-DAC-40G-50CM is a 40 Gigabit Ethernet QSFP+ direct attach copper cable (DAC) with a QSFP+ connector at each end. This passive twinax cable is 50cm long, making it well suited to short-reach, intra-rack links between 40GbE ports on Juniper switches and other QSFP+ equipment.

Because it is a passive copper design, it needs no external power and is a simple, low-latency alternative to separate QSFP+ optics and fibre patching for in-rack top-of-rack and server-to-switch connections. The QSFP+ ends are hot-swappable, so links can be added or replaced without taking equipment offline.

Features

- Short-reach 40GbE intra-rack connectivity
- Passive copper design, no external power required
- Hot-swappable QSFP+ connectors
- QSFP+ at both ends for direct port-to-port links

FAQs

Q: What does this cable connect?
A: It connects two QSFP+ 40GbE ports directly, with a QSFP+ connector on each end, over a 50cm passive twinax copper link.

Q: Is this a passive or active cable?
A: It is a passive direct attach copper cable, so it draws no external power.

Q: What distance does it support?
A: The cable is 50cm long and is intended for short-reach connections within a rack or between adjacent devices.

Q: Can it be hot-swapped?
A: Yes, the QSFP+ ends are hot-swappable, so the cable can be connected or replaced while equipment is running.

Q: Is it a good alternative to optical transceivers?
A: For very short links it is a simple option, as it removes the need for separate QSFP+ optics and fibre patch cables.
