Description

The FortiAP-221K is a Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be) indoor wireless access point built for campus and branch deployments demanding high-throughput, low-latency connectivity. Delivering dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz operation with 2x2 MU-MIMO across two spatial streams, it connects via a 2.5GbE (100/1000/2500 Base-T) RJ45 port, ensuring the uplink keeps pace with Wi-Fi 7 throughput. Internal antennas provide a clean, unobtrusive ceiling or wall-mount installation — hardware included — while integrated Bluetooth/BLE supports IoT device onboarding. A built-in RS-232 serial port adds flexibility for out-of-band management.

Centrally managed through FortiGate's integrated WLAN controller, FortiEdge Cloud, or FortiSASE, the FAP-221K sits natively within the Fortinet Security Fabric for single-pane-of-glass policy enforcement across wired and wireless infrastructure. Security features include WIDS/WIPS, WPA3/WPA2 support, and a Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) foundation. PoE+ (802.3at) powered — pair with a GPI-130 PoE injector or compatible PoE+ switch. FAQs

Q: What Wi-Fi standard does the FortiAP-221K support?
A: The FortiAP-221K supports Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be), the latest generation of wireless standard. It operates across dual bands (2.4GHz and 5GHz) with 2x2 MU-MIMO and two spatial streams per radio, delivering high throughput and reduced latency compared to Wi-Fi 6/6E predecessors.

Q: How is the FortiAP-221K managed?
A: The FAP-221K is centrally managed through the Fortinet Security Fabric — specifically via a FortiGate firewall acting as a wireless controller, FortiEdge Cloud (cloud-managed WLAN), or FortiSASE for SASE-based deployments. All options provide a single-pane-of-glass view of both wired and wireless infrastructure.

Q: What power source does the FAP-221K require?
A: The FortiAP-221K is powered via 802.3at PoE+ (Power over Ethernet Plus). You can power it using a compatible PoE+ switch port or a dedicated PoE injector such as the Fortinet GPI-130 (sold separately). No separate AC power adapter is required.

Q: Does the FortiAP-221K support IoT device connectivity?
A: Yes. The FAP-221K includes an integrated Bluetooth/BLE radio specifically designed to support IoT device onboarding and management, making it well suited for environments that combine traditional Wi-Fi clients with IoT sensors, beacons, and other BLE-enabled devices.

Q: Can the FortiAP-221K be used for remote or branch office deployments?
A: Yes. The FAP-221K supports Remote AP mode, enabling it to be deployed at microbranch or home office locations where it tunnels traffic securely back to a central FortiGate. Split tunnelling is also supported to optimise local versus data centre traffic routing.

Q: Can I purchase the FortiAP-221K (FAP-221K-H) in Australia from IP Trading?
A: Yes. IP Trading (iptrading.com.au) is an Australian B2B IT hardware reseller stocking Fortinet FortiAP access points including the FAP-221K-H. Contact the team for pricing, volume quotes, and advice on compatible Fortinet PoE injectors and FortiGate controllers to complete your deployment.
