Description

The FN-CABLE-SFP+X-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Fortinet FN-CABLE-SFP+1, FN-CABLE-SFP+3, and FN-CABLE-SFP+5 direct attach copper cables. This passive twinax cable provides plug-and-play connectivity for Fortinet switches, routers, and other systems with SFP+ slots. - 10GBASE-CR standard compliance ensures full interoperability in 10 Gigabit Ethernet applications - Passive twinax copper cable with SFP+ connectors at both ends, available in 1m, 3m, and 5m lengths - Low power consumption under 0.1W per cable eliminates active cooling requirements in dense rack deployments - Hot-pluggable design allows insertion and removal without powering down host equipment - 30 AWG twinax construction with 22mm bend radius (1m and 3m) provides flexible routing in tight cabinet spaces - Commercial temperature range 0°C to 70°C supports standard data centre and wiring closet environments

Features

• 10GBASE-CR compliance guarantees IEEE 802.3ae conformance and seamless operation with standards-based 10 Gigabit Ethernet equipment across vendors
• Passive copper architecture eliminates signal conditioning circuitry, delivering sub-0.1W power draw per cable for maximum density without thermal concerns
• Hot-swap capability allows live insertion and removal at the SFP+ cage without disrupting adjacent ports or requiring host shutdown procedures
• Twinax construction with 30 AWG gauge and 22mm minimum bend radius enables flexible cable management in high-density switch environments and rear-of-rack installations
• Commercial temperature rating to 70°C supports operation in standard HVAC-controlled data centres, wiring closets, and enterprise network rooms
• RoHS compliance ensures conformance to EU hazardous substance restrictions for environmentally conscious procurement and disposal requirements

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Fortinet FN-CABLE-SFP+1, FN-CABLE-SFP+3, or FN-CABLE-SFP+5?
A: Yes. This cable matches the 10GBASE-CR standard, SFP+ form factor, 10 Gbps data rate, and passive twinax construction of the Fortinet reference SKUs. It is plug-and-play compatible and functions identically in any Fortinet system with SFP+ slots.

Q: Which Fortinet platforms support this cable?
A: Any Fortinet switch, router, or appliance with SFP+ ports will support this cable. The 10GBASE-CR standard is platform-independent, so compatibility is determined by the presence of an SFP+ slot capable of 10 Gigabit Ethernet operation, not by specific model designation.

Q: Why choose passive DAC over active DAC or fibre transceivers for 10G links?
A: Passive DAC cables require no power for signal amplification, consuming under 0.1W versus 0.5W or more for active cables and 1-2W for optical transceivers. This makes passive twinax the most cost-effective and thermally efficient solution for rack-local 10G connectivity up to 5 meters, though fibre or active copper is necessary beyond that distance.

Q: Can I mix different cable lengths in the same switch or across a stack?
A: Yes. Each cable operates independently once the link establishes. The 10GBASE-CR standard does not require matched cable lengths between ports. You can use 1m cables for adjacent switch connections and 3m or 5m cables for cross-rack links within the same system without performance impact.

Q: Does this cable support forward error correction or require FEC enabled on the host?
A: Passive 10GBASE-CR twinax cables typically do not require FEC for reliable operation at 10 Gbps over distances up to 5 meters. FEC is generally configured for longer-reach active copper or optical links where signal degradation is more likely. Most Fortinet platforms auto-negotiate FEC if needed, but for these short passive cables it is usually disabled by default.
