Description

The Arista CAB-Q-4S-100G-3M is a passive 100GBASE-CR4 QSFP28 to 4x 25GBASE-CR SFP28 Twinax direct attach copper (DAC) breakout cable, purpose-built for high-density data centre interconnects. At 3 metres, it delivers a cost-effective, zero-power alternative to optical transceivers when connecting 100G spine or core switches to four 25G server NICs or Top-of-Rack switches within the same or adjacent racks. With full compliance to IEEE 802.3, SFF-8636, and QSFP28 MSA SFF-8665 standards, it integrates seamlessly into Arista EOS environments running version 4.18.0 or later.

The passive copper design eliminates the need for active signal processing, reducing both cost and complexity in high port-density deployments. RoHS compliant and rated for operating temperatures of 0°C to 70°C, this cable is well-suited to demanding enterprise and hyperscale data centre environments. In stock and ready to ship from iptrading.com.au — order now for fast dispatch.

Features

- Passive copper design — zero additional power consumption beyond the host port
- Breakout connectivity: one 100G QSFP28 port fans out to four independent 25G SFP28 connections
- Cost-effective alternative to optical transceivers for short rack-to-rack distances
- Compatible with Arista EOS 4.18.0 and later for validated, supported deployments
- MSA standard QSFP28 compliant (SFF-8665) for broad ecosystem interoperability
- Ideal for high-density data centre core and Top-of-Rack switch-to-server interconnects
- RoHS compliant — meets environmental and regulatory requirements
- Supports 100GBASE-CR4 at 103.1 Gbit/s aggregate throughput

FAQs

Q: What is the CAB-Q-4S-100G-3M used for?
A: It is a passive DAC breakout cable used to connect a single 100G QSFP28 switch port to four 25G SFP28 ports on servers or downstream switches, enabling high-density, low-cost interconnects within a data centre rack or between adjacent racks.

Q: Is this cable compatible with non-Arista switches?
A: The CAB-Q-4S-100G-3M complies with IEEE 802.3, SFF-8636, and QSFP28 MSA SFF-8665 standards, making it physically compatible with many third-party 100G QSFP28 and 25G SFP28 ports. However, Arista guarantees full validation and support with Arista EOS 4.18.0 and later. Compatibility with non-Arista equipment should be verified against the vendor's transceiver compatibility list.

Q: Does this cable require any power or active components?
A: No. This is a fully passive cable — it draws no additional power beyond what is supplied by the host port. There are no active signal processing components, which keeps costs low and eliminates a potential point of failure.

Q: What is the maximum distance this DAC cable supports?
A: This cable is 3 metres in length and is suited to short-reach rack-to-rack or within-rack connections. For longer distances, active optical cables (AOC) or optical transceivers with fibre would be required.

Q: Can I purchase the Arista CAB-Q-4S-100G-3M in Australia from IP Trading?
A: Yes. IP Trading (iptrading.com.au) is an Australian B2B IT hardware reseller with this cable in stock and ready to ship. Orders placed with IP Trading benefit from fast local dispatch and Australian-based customer support.

Q: What Arista switches is this cable validated for?
A: Arista validates this cable for use with Arista EOS version 4.18.0 and later. It is suitable for use with Arista's 7000-series and other platforms featuring 100G QSFP28 ports in data centre core and Top-of-Rack deployments.
