Description

The Arista CAB-O-8S-200G-1M is a 200GBASE-CR8 passive Direct Attach Copper (DAC) breakout cable delivering a 1-metre, high-density interconnect solution for data centre and HPC environments. With an OSFP connector on one end and 8 x 25GBASE-CR SFP28 connectors on the other, it enables 200G OSFP-equipped Arista switches to directly connect to servers or NICs with 25G SFP ports — eliminating the need for active optics or separate transceivers. The passive twinax design minimises power consumption and cost while delivering 200Gbps aggregate throughput across 8 x 25G NRZ electrical lanes.

Supported from Arista EOS 4.23.0 onwards, this cable integrates seamlessly into Arista's ecosystem including CloudVision management. Each SFP28 connector is factory-programmed with an EEPROM identifying the 25G NRZ signal format, ensuring compatibility with legacy 100G QSFP and 25G SFP infrastructure. Available in 1m, 2m, and 3m variants within the CAB-O-8S-200G series, it is ideal for rack-level and adjacent-rack breakout deployments. FAQs

Q: What does the Arista CAB-O-8S-200G-1M connect?
A: It connects a single 200G OSFP port on an Arista switch to eight separate 25G SFP28 ports on servers, NICs, or legacy switches. This breakout configuration maximises port density without requiring additional optics or active components.

Q: Is this cable compatible with non-Arista equipment?
A: The cable is designed and validated for Arista EOS-based platforms. Each SFP28 connector contains a programmed EEPROM identifying 25G NRZ signal rates, which allows interoperability with legacy 100G QSFP and 25G SFP infrastructure. Compatibility with third-party equipment should be confirmed against the respective vendor's supported transceiver list.

Q: What EOS version is required to use this cable?
A: Arista EOS 4.23.0 or later is required. The OSFP port must also be configured to operate in 200G mode using 8 x 25G NRZ electrical lanes.

Q: Why choose a passive DAC cable over active optical transceivers for this application?
A: Passive DAC cables require no active electronics, resulting in lower power consumption, lower cost, and reduced latency compared to active optical solutions. They are ideal for short-reach connections within or between adjacent racks where cable lengths of 1–3 metres are sufficient.

Q: Are other lengths available in this cable family?
A: Yes. The CAB-O-8S-200G series is available in 1m, 2m, and 3m variants. For deployments requiring slightly longer reach within a row of racks, the 2m or 3m models offer the same OSFP to 8 x 25G SFP28 breakout configuration.

Q: Can I purchase the Arista CAB-O-8S-200G-1M in Australia through IP Trading?
A: Yes. IP Trading (iptrading.com.au) is a trusted Australian B2B IT hardware reseller stocking Arista networking products including DAC and breakout cables. Contact the team for pricing, availability, and bulk order enquiries.
