How to plan an industrial network

Start with the site. Note temperature, dust, moisture, vibration and power available in each cabinet. Industrial gear is rated for wide temperatures and runs on DC power, often with dual inputs.

Build the network in layers:

Secure the OT network. Separate control systems from the office network with industrial firewalls and use IEC 62443 certified products where possible.

Plan long runs. Copper Ethernet reaches 100 metres. Use fibre and media converters for longer distances and electrically noisy areas.

Manage it centrally. Tools such as Moxa MXview One and Teltonika RMS monitor devices across sites. Read our industrial IoT buying guide for more.
